Arsenal did not field their strongest team in the 10th round of the Premier League. They played at home against Sheffield United – the bottom-placed team with only one point after the first nine rounds. Mikel Arteta's side had little difficulty securing three points.
Arsenal had twice the possession rate of their opponents in the first half. However, with Sheffield playing a deep defensive game, the home team didn't create many chances. The Arsenal players played slowly and patiently, looking for space.

Arsenal had three scoring opportunities and scored one goal in the first half. Declan Rice delivered a surprising pass that caught the Sheffield United defenders off guard. Eddie Nketiah controlled the ball neatly and finished accurately in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. The English striker ended a nine-game goalless streak.
Nketiah's goal made things easier for Arsenal. The home team completely controlled the game, even without launching a relentless attack. After the half-time break, the visitors' possession rate dropped below 30%.
The star of the second half was Nketiah. The 24-year-old striker seized the opportunity to double the lead in the 50th minute when the visiting goalkeeper made a mistake during a corner kick. Less than 10 minutes later, Nketiah scored a spectacular long-range goal to make it 3-0.
Nketiah is the first Arsenal player to score a hat-trick in the 2023/2024 season.
This was the first time the player had scored a hat-trick for Arsenal. In the final 20 minutes of the match, Nketiah was given the captain's armband again after Bukayo Saka left the field.
Sheffield quickly collapsed and lost all fighting spirit. The visitors failed to create any threatening situations that troubled the Arsenal defense.
In the final minutes of the match, Arsenal were awarded a penalty after the referee reviewed the footage and determined that Fabio Vieira had been fouled. Nketiah passed the ball to his Portuguese teammate, denying himself a chance to score the fourth goal of the match. Vieira successfully converted the penalty.
That wasn't the final goal of the match. In a corner kick in the sixth minute of added time, Takehiro Tomiyasu scored his first Premier League goal to seal a 5-0 victory for Arsenal.
