An unexpected legal battle is brewing for Lionel Messi and the AFA as VID Music Group (VMG) has officially filed a lawsuit in Florida, USA. The plaintiff claims nearly $7 million in damages due to unfulfilled commitments made during Argentina's most recent tour.

The case stems from the FIFA Days in October, when Argentina played friendly matches against Venezuela in Miami and Puerto Rico in Fort Lauderdale. According to legal documents, Messi's participation in both matches was guaranteed by contract.

However, the Argentina captain did not play a single minute against Venezuela. As a result, the match only attracted around 15,000 spectators at Hard Rock Stadium, while the stadium has a capacity of 65,000 seats.

VMG believes that the absence of the team's biggest star has severely reduced the commercial value of the event.

The controversy intensified when, during the national team's training camp, Messi played for Inter Miami CF in the MLS. According to the plaintiffs, this directly impacted the promotional activities and ticket sales revenue of the friendly matches.

The lawsuit, filed in Miami-Dade County District 11's Judicial District, contains 10 allegations. VMG alleges they were persuaded to invest through false commercial promises.

A portion of VMG's complaint was published on April 16th.

VMG's representative is businessman Javier Fernandez, also known by the nickname Javier Voltaje. He previously appeared alongside AFA President Claudio Tapia in posts promoting the tournament series, but these posts have since been removed from social media.

VMG also confirmed it will hold a press conference on April 21st at Coral Gables to announce further evidence and the next steps in its legal process.

This lawsuit could significantly impact how Argentina organizes future tours in North America, especially since Lionel Messi remains the team's biggest draw.

Messi continues to shine, Inter Miami unfortunately share points. Messi still showed his class by contributing one assist in the 2-2 draw between Inter Miami and New York RB in MLS on the morning of April 12th. This draw means Messi and his teammates have yet to win at their new home stadium.
