Atletico Madrid change ownership. |
On the afternoon of November 11, an official announcement on Atletico's homepage said that Apollo had become the club's largest shareholder through a large investment. However, this deal will only be completed within the next 3 to 6 months, meaning that they have not yet officially taken control of the majority of La Liga clubs.
Under the deal, existing shareholders, including Wanda, Quantum Pacific and Ares, will continue to hold shares, but their stakes will be reduced on a monthly basis.
This ensures stability in the club's ownership structure and paves the way for a new development strategy under the guidance of Apollo. The deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
It is worth noting that Apollo expressed its respect for Atletico Madrid's current leadership. Miguel Angel Gil will continue to hold the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), while Enrique Cerezo will maintain his role as Chairman.
Apollo Global Management, one of the world's leading investment funds with assets under management of hundreds of billions of dollars, is committed to supporting Atletico Madrid's long-term development.
In an official statement, Apollo representatives stressed their respect for the club’s history and identity, while promising further investment in the squad and key infrastructure projects, such as the upgrade of the Ciudad del Deporte training centre. This is a strategic move to increase the club’s competitiveness in the fiercely competitive European context.
