This morning, over 96,000 students in Ho Chi Minh City took the 10th grade entrance exam in Literature. Around 10 a.m., students at the exam centers poured out of the gates with varying expressions and moods. Some were happy because they had written well on the essay topic "Letting thoughts be expressed in words," others were worried because their work wasn't satisfactory, and some even broke down in tears.

At the exam center at Trung Vuong High School, District 1, we met female students who burst into tears in their mothers' arms after the literature exam because their performance was not as good as they had hoped.

This year's 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City is extremely stressful, with over 96,000 candidates taking the exam, while only over 77,000 places are available in public high schools. Nearly 20,000 candidates will have to choose other paths after this exam.

At the exam site at Chanh Hung High School, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, parents crowded the sidewalks around the school from 7 a.m. waiting for their children. After the exam ended, we saw a father quietly pushing his child in a wheelchair from the exam site back home.

Mr. Ngo Quang Dong is the father of candidate Ngo QL (a student from Chanh Hung Secondary School, District 8). Mr. Dong said his son tore a ligament in one leg more than 50 days ago. He explained that it will take six months for his son to recover, so during those months, he has been his son's "legs," his daily companion, pushing his wheelchair from home to school, from home to the entrance exam location for 10th grade, and back home – located in Pham The Hien market, District 8. "I took time off work to care for my son. Luckily, he only injured his leg; his arm was still able to do well on the exam," he confided.

At Ly Thanh Tong Secondary School (District 8), most candidates assessed the Literature exam as being of appropriate difficulty. Huynh Thi Tuyet Nhi, a student from Ly Thanh Tong Secondary School, shared: "I found this year's exam relatively manageable and I was most impressed with the reading comprehension section." Similarly, Ho Ngoc Bao Tram, a student from Duong Ba Trac Secondary School, said: "This year's exam was relatively easy. I was most impressed with question 2 in the reading comprehension section, and the most difficult question was question 3."
