In yesterday's trading session, the world metal market experienced many fluctuations after US President Donald Trump announced plans to increase import taxes. This move is aimed at protecting domestic production activities in the US, but also raised concerns about the risk of supply shortages in the market.

At the end of the trading session, for the precious metal group, silver price recorded an increase of 1.54%, to 30.88 USD/ounce.

In a speech to Republican lawmakers on Monday (January 27), US President Trump emphasized his plan to impose import tariffs on many items, including computer chips, pharmaceuticals, copper, aluminum and steel. This is a measure to encourage companies to manufacture in the US, while reducing dependence on imports. This move raised concerns about the risk of narrowing the supply of silver - an important material in chip production thanks to its superior electrical and thermal conductivity. At the same time, silver is also popular in the medical field thanks to its antibacterial properties, increasing demand for this metal, pushing prices to reverse sharply during the session. In addition, Mr. Trump's tax plan also increased concerns about trade tensions with international partners, thereby attracting money to safe-haven assets, especially precious metals such as silver.

However, the prospect of the US Federal Reserve (FED) keeping interest rates unchanged at its upcoming meeting also puts pressure on this group. Higher interest rates can strengthen the US dollar, making the precious metal more expensive for investors using other currencies, thereby curbing demand for the metal.
