From April 2026, the Thai Nguyen Health Department will implement a policy of seconding doctors from higher-level hospitals to support commune and ward health stations in the province. This is a practical solution to improve the capacity of grassroots healthcare in a context where many localities still face difficulties in terms of specialized human resources.
Dr. Trinh Duc Hieu, working at the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital, is one of two doctors seconded to the Nam Hoa Commune Health Station. Upon receiving his assignment, Dr. Hieu quickly adapted to the new working environment, directly participating in examinations, consultations, and treatment for local residents.
Despite the limited infrastructure and equipment at the commune level, the presence of doctors from higher-level hospitals has contributed to improving the quality of primary healthcare, helping people access quality medical services right where they live.
As one of the local residents who benefit from healthcare services, Ms. Tran Thi Bich from Pha Ly hamlet said: "The medical staff are always dedicated to examining, checking health, and providing necessary medical services, creating peace of mind for people when they come to the health station."

Not only medical facilities within the province, but many other medical units have proactively participated in supporting local areas through the deployment of doctors. For example, Bac Kan General Hospital has sent 5 doctors to work at health stations in 4 disadvantaged communes.
According to Mr. Hoang Xuan Son, Director of Bac Kan General Hospital: Before implementing the secondment program, the unit coordinated with local health stations to survey the actual needs of the health stations in order to assign doctors with the necessary expertise. Each secondment period lasts about 3 months and is implemented according to a plan until 2030.
Although the hospital's human resources are not yet abundant, sending doctors to local areas has effectively contributed to supporting localities, gradually overcoming the shortage of medical personnel and improving the quality of primary healthcare for the people.
Mr. Dinh Manh Cuong, Deputy Director of the Thai Nguyen Department of Health, said: To date, the entire province has 48 doctors seconded to work in 35 communes and wards. This team of doctors has been effectively utilizing their expertise, contributing to improving the quality of grassroots healthcare services and better meeting the medical needs of the people.
From April 1st, 2026, all health stations in the province will have a full complement of four doctors after receiving additional personnel from higher-level medical facilities. This is an important condition that will help health stations improve their capacity to handle situations and cases arising at the local level.
With the attention of all levels and sectors, along with the efforts of the medical staff, the grassroots healthcare system in Thai Nguyen is gradually being strengthened, better meeting the healthcare needs of the people.
