In Lam Dong : On the morning of September 18th, the Da Lat Forest Protection Department (Xuan Huong Ward – Da Lat, Lam Dong) received a Javan pangolin ( scientific name: Manis javanica) voluntarily handed over by a local resident after discovering it crawling into their yard on the night of September 17th.
Specifically, the Javan pangolin was handed over to the Forest Protection Department alive and healthy, weighing 3kg. According to Mr. Ho Hoang Anh Kha (residing on Van Hanh Street, Lam Vien Ward, Da Lat), at approximately 11:30 PM on September 17th, upon returning home, he discovered a stray animal on the alley in front of his house. Despite seeing him shine a flashlight, the animal did not run away but instead crawled into the yard. Mr. Kha then kept the animal inside his house until morning to report it to the authorities. On the morning of September 18th, Mr. Kha and his younger brother, Ho Hoang Anh Khoa, brought the animal to the Da Lat Forest Protection Department to hand it over to the relevant authorities.
After receiving the pangolin, the Da Lat Forest Protection Department released it into a care and breeding area, awaiting further processing according to regulations. According to the head of the Da Lat Forest Protection Department, in the long term, the unit will prepare the necessary documents and procedures to transfer the Javan pangolin to Cat Tien National Park for breeding and conservation.
The Javan pangolin is listed in the Vietnamese Red Book, belonging to group IB according to Government Decree 32/2006/ND-CP on the management of endangered, rare, and precious forest plants and animals. Keeping them in captivity and trading them commercially are strictly prohibited.
In Phu Tho : In fulfilling their duty to ensure security and order while simultaneously protecting the environment, the Van Ban Commune Police, Phu Tho province, recently coordinated with the Cam Khe Forest Management Unit and the Economic Department of the Commune People's Committee to inspect and confiscate 30 sets of nets and various tools used for catching wild birds from 30 households in the area.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered that residents had arbitrarily erected nets and used loudspeakers to play fake bird calls to lure and capture wild birds. This is an act strictly prohibited by law, not only depleting natural bird populations and seriously impacting biodiversity, but also causing ecological imbalance and increasing the risk of pests and diseases affecting crops, as birds are important natural predators. Notably, the use of loudspeakers playing fake bird calls day and night also creates loud noise, causing sound pollution, directly affecting people's lives, and disrupting village security and order.
Through this activity, the Van Ban Commune Police and other functional units have propagated and encouraged people to raise their awareness of complying with the law and actively participate in protecting the natural environment and preserving the ecosystem.
