Dancesport grandmaster Dang Thu Huong, winner of the bronze medal at the 2025 World Showdance Latin Championship (with dance partner Phan Hien), hopes to be in the world top 24 before retiring at the end of 2026.

After Vietnam's first bronze medal at the World Showdance Latin 2025 (held in the US in September 2025), the female champion with the "biggest" medal collection in Vietnamese dancesport has just "bombed" the national championship with Phan Hien, with absolute victory: gold medal in Samba solo and gold medal in Latin 5-dance all-around championship. Then, almost without time to rest, Thu Huong went to Poland to train to prepare for the new tournament.

The female dancesport champion shared that her career can be divided into two stages: before and after having Phan Hien as her dance partner. "Previously, my old dance partner (also Thu Huong's ex-husband - PV) and I always finished 2nd and 3rd in the national championship, and never participated in any major Asian tournaments. But since Phan Hien and I became dance partners, we have always maintained our Southeast Asian championship title, ranked 2nd in Asia, and even entered the top 40 on the global rankings of the World Dancesport Federation (WDSF) 2025. Vietnamese dancesport has never passed the qualifying round of the world championship, but now it has reached the quarterfinals, and in some tournaments it has even reached the semi-finals, most notably the recent bronze medal at the World Showdance Latin 2025...", Thu Huong proudly said.

Thu Huong, Phan Hien and coach Khanh Thi share the same dream of making it into the world's top 24 before retiring. "It is truly a fierce race, which can only be conquered with experience and will. A record that no Southeast Asian athlete has been able to achieve so far. We want to create a new milestone for Vietnamese dancesport and our own career. I always want to get out of my comfort zone. First of all, with confidence in my own abilities and utmost efforts. Then, with boundless faith in my two close colleagues Khanh Thi - Phan Hien. I always feel the burning will in their hearts, with their intense love for Vietnamese dancesport," the girl confided.

"In the past, when going to international competitions, representatives from Vietnam were often looked down upon by world champions, both literally and figuratively. Our mission is to change that perspective, and we have done it," the person who brought Vietnamese dancesport to the world proudly said.

Talking about the golden couple of the Vietnamese dancesport village Khanh Thi and Phan Hien, Thu Huong could not hide her admiration: "Khanh Thi's femininity lies in the fact that she knows how to be "spoiled", but she is spoiled at the right time, with the right person. Phan Hien is always an extremely gallant gentleman with his woman. With such gentle care, when a woman does anything for her man, she feels comfortable in giving and receiving."

Thu Huong admires her two close friends, but deep inside is a reflection of herself - a woman who used to be strong, independent, and always kept her distance from men. Huong allows herself to change, to become softer.

If love helps dancesport couples have more catalysts to sublimate, then for Thu Huong and Phan Hien, the pair of partners who are "not each other's other half", the connection comes from another depth. "Instead of connecting with a dance partner, it is connecting with oneself, one's inner self. For women who have experienced a stormy marriage and devoted all their efforts to their career, their inner self will naturally become deeper and stronger...", Huong said.

A passionate career path, combined with personal life experiences, seem to have distilled in Thu Huong a very gentle desire: to be herself in a softer, more feminine version.
