Throughout the century-long history of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism, the capital's press has been the "main driving force," always pioneering, powerful, and incisive on the ideological and cultural front.

The mainstream is pioneering and powerful.
Looking back at the 100-year history of revolutionary Vietnamese journalism, Hanoi laid the foundation for the formation and development of modern Vietnamese-language journalism. The Dai Viet Tan Bao newspaper, founded in 1905, was one of the first Vietnamese-language newspapers, contributing to the spread of the spirit of renewal and reform. After the first issue of Thanh Nien newspaper was published on June 21, 1925, opening the history of revolutionary Vietnamese journalism, Hanoi also became the "cradle" of many patriotic and progressive newspapers such as Phong Hoa and Ngay Nay, contributing to the revival of public awareness and the dissemination of democratic and revolutionary ideas.
After the August Revolution of 1945, the press in the capital continued to play an important role in consolidating the revolutionary government and fostering national unity, with newspapers such as Dan Y, Tien Len, Tia Sang, Thoi Moi, and Hanoi Daily...
The Liberation Day of Hanoi (October 10, 1954) was a significant milestone, marking a turning point for the capital's press. Just four days later, a fixed broadcasting station was installed at the Thuy Ta Information and Exhibition House with rudimentary technical facilities, laying the first foundation for the city's spoken and visual media – Hanoi Radio and Television Station. Notably, on October 24, 1957, the Capital Newspaper – the predecessor of Hanoi Moi Newspaper – launched its first daily issue. As the organ of the Hanoi City Party Committee, the voice of the Party Committee, government, and people of the capital, for nearly 68 years, Hanoi Moi Newspaper has always been a pioneering newspaper on the propaganda front, making important contributions to the overall achievements of the capital and the country.
Under the leadership of the Party and the guidance of the Hanoi City Party Committee and People's Committee, the capital's press overcame all difficulties, hardships, and challenges, fostering faith and igniting the flame of revolutionary enthusiasm in each generation of people, creating a powerful force of great unity among all strata and classes, contributing to the complete victory of the struggle for national independence. During the years of resistance, the capital's press demonstrated unwavering political resolve, becoming a "sharp weapon" on the ideological and cultural front. Many journalists even "held both pen and gun," venturing into the most fiercely contested war zones. Some journalists were wounded or sacrificed their lives, but the flow of information never ceased.
After the reunification of the country, especially during the nearly 40 years of reform, the role of the press in Hanoi has become increasingly prominent in propagating, encouraging, and motivating the entire Party, people, and army to successfully implement the reform policies initiated and led by our Party. Along with Hanoi Moi Newspaper, Hanoi Radio and Television, other Hanoi press agencies such as Kinh Te & Do Thi Newspaper, An Ninh Thu Do Newspaper, Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper, Lao Dong Thu Do Newspaper, Phu Nu Thu Do Newspaper, Nguoi Ha Noi Magazine, and other major press agencies in Hanoi such as Nhan Dan Newspaper, Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam Radio , Quan Doi Nhan Dan Newspaper, Cong An Nhan Dan Newspaper... have actively and truthfully reflected all aspects of social life.
Journalist Nguyen Minh Duc, Secretary of the Party Committee and Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, commented that the capital's press, including Hanoi Moi Newspaper, has done a good job in disseminating information to raise awareness, build trust, and foster social consensus in implementing the Party's resolutions, the Central and city's major policies and plans; and encouraging cadres, Party members, and the people to actively carry out the city's political tasks. Hanoi's press has also been a pioneer in protecting the Party's ideological foundation, proactively combating erroneous viewpoints, effectively guiding public opinion, and contributing an important voice in the implementation of the capital's and the country's political tasks. In addition, Hanoi's journalists have produced many works that discover and highlight exemplary individuals and good deeds in various professions, especially those who emulate the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh.
“In particular, Hanoi Moi Newspaper and the press in the capital in general have established a systematic and in-depth approach, creating a wide-ranging social impact in disseminating information about the revolution in restructuring and streamlining the apparatus, the major viewpoints of the Party and General Secretary To Lam on the “new era - the era of national progress”, contributing to inspiring confidence, fostering aspirations, guiding development thinking, and helping the capital and the whole country enter a new period of development,” Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Minh Duc emphasized.
Journalist To Quang Phan, Chairman of the Hanoi Journalists Association, affirmed that under any circumstances, favorable or difficult, Hanoi's press continues to rise proudly, fulfilling its mission as "the vanguard soldiers on the ideological and cultural front," successfully carrying out the task of disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and regulations, and those of the City Party Committee, City People's Council, City People's Committee, and all levels and sectors.
Accompanying the Capital and the country in the digital age.
In the era of Industry 4.0, the capital city and the entire country are vigorously building a digital government, digital economy, and digital society. Accordingly, the capital's press has proactively undergone digital transformation, improving content quality and applying modern technology in production, distribution, and interaction. Journalist Nguyen Minh Duc, Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, noted that modern journalism is witnessing a strong transformation, moving beyond traditional frameworks to adapt to the digital age, continuing to accompany the cause of building and developing the capital city and the country.
Most media outlets in the capital have built a converged newsroom model, applying technology to modern journalistic processes. Newspapers are boosting the production of multimedia content such as videos, infographics, megastories, e-magazines, and podcasts; building their own digital platforms; and disseminating information through social networks like Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok... to deliver information and activities of the capital and the country quickly, powerfully, and vividly to modern readers. Media outlets also organize special sections and columns on "hot" topics, closely following the political and social life of the capital to guide public opinion; reflect the thoughts and aspirations of the people in a timely and accurate manner; and contribute practical solutions to the construction and development of the capital and the country.
The power of Hanoi's press is growing stronger as the city officially puts into operation the Hanoi Press Center – the second facility of the Hanoi City Center for Communication, Data and Digital Technology – from May 9, 2025. This is a professional, modern center that applies high technology, meeting the communication requirements of the digital age, demonstrating efforts to innovate journalism and communication, and aiming for an open, transparent, and modern press.
The transformation of Hanoi's press in the digital age is not just about technological changes, but more profoundly, it's a shift in journalistic thinking, focusing on the reader and using reach and social impact as measures of success. Media outlets are no longer simply "reporting news" but are becoming "digital content creators" to support the capital's development goals in this new era.
Throughout the 100-year history of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism, the press in Hanoi has left proud imprints, from its journey alongside the resistance war to its role as a "bridge" between the Party, the State, and the people in the process of national construction and development. "The press in Hanoi, and the journalists in Hanoi, are always united and determined to successfully fulfill their assigned political tasks, absolutely trusting in the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam; deeply imbued with the guiding ideology and major orientations of the Party and General Secretary To Lam regarding the new era – the era of national progress; and the orientations and directives of the Hanoi City Party Committee and People's Committee in the construction and development of a cultured, civilized, and modern capital city; and building a prosperous and strong nation," affirmed To Quang Phan, Chairman of the Hanoi Journalists Association.
