Conservation of biodiversity for sustainable development
Over the years, Binh Dinh province has made great efforts to implement many solutions in biodiversity conservation, contributing to raising awareness of all levels, sectors, localities and communities in biodiversity conservation, towards sustainable development.
According to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Binh Dinh province currently has 8 ecosystems, including: natural forests, secondary forests; bamboo forests, grasses, shrubs; Agricultural ecosystem; Inland water system; Compaction HST; coral reef ecosystem; Ecosystems of residential, urban and industrial zones; important role in biodiversity conservation.
Ms. Ha Thi Thanh Huong, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said: The province has also issued a biodiversity conservation plan in Binh Dinh province to 2025, with a vision to 2030, aiming to ensure that important natural ecosystems, endangered, precious and rare species and genetic resources are preserved and developed sustainably; maintain and develop ecosystem services to adapt to climate change to promote sustainable development of the province, build and raise public awareness in conserving biodiversity of the province.

To implement the above objectives, Binh Dinh province focuses on directing, operating and supervising the management of the nature reserve; protect precious and rare wildlife, protect coral reefs; implementing many programs and projects on biodiversity conservation, such as: Investigate, survey and propose measures to prevent and control invasive alien species in the province; build a pilot model of environmental communication and biodiversity conservation at the commune level in An Toan Nature Reserve (An Toan commune, An Lao district); invest, upgrade infrastructure, biodiversity monitoring system; propagate and educate on the environment and biodiversity in the community, create consensus, join hands to conserve and restore biodiversity...
Mr. Dinh Cong Nien, a resident of hamlet 2, An Toan commune, shared: “Thanks to the propaganda, the perception of our people here has changed a lot. Now she also knows how to join hands to protect special-use forests, participate in forest protection contracts, exploit products under the forest canopy, such as honey, mushrooms, forest rattan... to stabilize her life.
The lagoon ecosystem is also conserved and maintains mangrove biodiversity, making an important contribution to combating climate change, combating tidal erosion, creating ecological landscapes and livelihoods for people living along the lagoon.
Duong Van Tuong, from Diem Van village, Phuoc Thuan commune, Tuy Phuoc district, confided: "When realizing that the benefits from the restoration and protection of mangroves are to bring about sustainable livelihoods, people living along Thi Nai lagoon have joined hands to protect mangroves, so fish and shrimp live a lot, people here make a living by fishing with regular income."
According to Dr. Tran Van Vinh, Deputy Director of the Fisheries Sub-Department (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), the coral reef ecosystem has also been coordinated by the fisheries sector with coastal localities in the province to organize many communication activities, implement projects to protect coral reefs, establish community groups to protect coastal aquatic resources; releasing fingerlings to regenerate aquatic resources on Thi Nai lagoon, lagoon
Tra O…, joined hands by the fishing community to participate. As in Nhon Hai commune, Nhon Ly (Quy Nhon city), coral reef ecosystem is protected by the fishing community, so many species of marine animals and plants come to inhabit; especially sea turtles - rare and precious marine animals in danger of extinction listed in the Red Book of Vietnam and the world frequently appear.
Towards the conservation of biodiversity for the sake of sustainable development, Ms. Ha Thi Thanh Huong said: We will continue to advise the Provincial People's Committee to propose the Central Government to upgrade An Toan Nature Reserve into An Toan National Park, to establish Thi Nai Lagoon Nature Reserve this year. In the coming time, will continue to build information, the province's biodiversity database with an overview to update on the system; implementing projects to conserve biodiversity and adapt to climate change…
