Ter Stegen is on Barcelona's sell-off list. |
According to Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona are confident that they will not need to sell key players this summer to sign Garcia and Williams. The likes of Ansu Fati, Pau Victor, Pablo Torre, Inaki Pena, Oriol Romeu, Andreas Christensen and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are all on the list of possible departures.
Among these faces, Ter Stegen is a notable case. The German goalkeeper lost his starting position to Wojciech Szczesny last season due to a long-term injury. When he returned, he was no longer trusted by coach Hansi Flick. Barcelona's decision to recruit Joan Garcia from Espanyol forced Ter Stegen to find a new club.
However, Mundo Deportivo assesses that selling goalkeeper Ter Stegen could be difficult, as he wants to stay and complete his contract until 2028.
In addition, the Nico Williams contract is expected to cost Barcelona nearly 60 million euros. The two sides have reached a personal agreement and are waiting for the two clubs to agree on a transfer fee. Williams' presence also puts an end to Ansu Fati, who was benched by coach Flick.
Barcelona have been in serious financial trouble for years, with debts running into billions of euros. The club is bound by La Liga's 1:1 rule, which means the Catalan club can only spend within its means, meaning they have to sell a player before they can sign a replacement.
However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta insists this rule will no longer be an issue in the 2025/26 season, admitting that the club's "revival" period has come.
