Authorities arrest suspect for fraudulent land sales in Phu Quoc, embezzling over 23 billion VND.

On September 4th, the Investigation Police Department of Kien Giang province announced that it had coordinated with the Procuratorate of the same level to serve the decision to initiate criminal proceedings, indict the suspect, and detain Nguyen Van Tua (44 years old, residing in Vinh Quang ward, Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province) for 4 months for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

The investigating agency read the arrest warrant for Nguyen Van Tua.

According to initial investigation results, from May 2022 to March 2023, Nguyen Van Tua fraudulently sold nearly 20,000 ^{square meters} of land in Da Chong hamlet, Bai Thom commune, Phu Quoc city to Mr. Pham Minh Tuan (residing in Ho Chi Minh City) and several other households by creating notarized documents.

In reality, the land in question is managed by the Phu Quoc City People's Committee, not by Tua. Through fraudulent means, Tua embezzled over 23 billion VND from the victims.

During a search of Nguyen Van Tua's residence, authorities seized numerous related documents.

When selling the land, Tua guaranteed that the land was not subject to disputes, seizures, or confiscations. However, after receiving the transfer, when Mr. Pham Minh Tuan went to take possession of the land and build a house, he was prevented from doing so by others. Upon discovering that the land he had purchased was under state management, Mr. Tuan filed a complaint against Tua for fraud with the police.
