The family is no longer whole after the son-in-law's mistake.
On the Threads platform, an account with the initials HL, living in Hanoi, attracted attention by sharing the story of a domestic helper. From a well-off family in the countryside, she now works part-time in the city, living in a 10m² rented room due to her son-in-law's mistake.
"For the past few years, we've hired her to work full-time during Tet because it's busier and we also want her to have a place where she can feel a sense of family. I've heard her confide in me about how she's often burst into tears when she returns to her rented room alone," she shared.

According to HL, the family's housekeeper is Mrs. Hoa, over 50 years old. Two years ago, she left her hometown for the city after her son-in-law mortgaged the land deed, borrowed money for investment, and then went bankrupt.
“She recounted that back in her hometown, she had a fairly spacious two-story house. After her daughter got married, because she lived alone and also to save money for her children, she let her daughter and son-in-law live on the second floor, while she used the first floor, cooking and helping with housework every day. Her son-in-law was quite a successful businessman and investor, and her daughter owned a hair salon near their house. When things were going well, the family was harmonious, and her two children were filial and treated her very well.”
"She thought the peaceful days would last forever, until one day two years ago, she received news that her son-in-law had mortgaged the house to invest in a business, but unfortunately, he went bankrupt, losing both the house and the money. And that wasn't all; because of financial problems, her daughter and son-in-law also had conflicts, arguments, and eventually divorced, each going their separate ways," Tiểu Lam recounted.
Ms. Hoa, being a woman who valued honor and feared gossip, and having nowhere else to go, moved to the city. There, she used her savings from many years to rent a cramped room of only about 10 square meters, bought a few personal items, and began looking for work.

Due to health reasons, she chose to work part-time as a domestic helper, and also collect scrap metal in her free time to make ends meet. She's been in the city for two years, but not a day goes by that she doesn't miss her family and daughter. Therefore, every time she returns to her 10-square-meter rented room, especially during holidays, Mrs. Tran can't hold back her tears when she sees the family photo on the table. It's a photo taken five years ago, when her husband was still alive and her daughter and son-in-law were still happy.
“ She recounted that it was a day at the end of the year, she was wearing a floral dress that her son-in-law had bought for her, and shoes that her daughter had taken her to the market to buy for her. At that time, her daughter and her husband had been married for one year. Her husband also cooked and did all the housework to help his wife. Neighbors and relatives all admired Mrs. Hoa's family – a model of happiness.”
"As Mrs. Hoa recounted the story, her eyes still sparkled with happiness and pride, but also mixed with a touch of sadness," Tiểu Mai shared.
Ms. Hoa said that her daughter now has a new family and cannot bring her mother to live with her. She also doesn't want to bother her daughter, so she chooses to stay in this large city. Without relatives, Ms. Tran goes to work during the day and returns home to her small rented room in the evening, trying to fill the void of sadness by watching television or doing sewing.
