Mbeumo is in MU's sights. |
After an initial offer of around £55m for Mbeumo was rejected by Brentford, the Old Trafford team returned with a new price of up to £60m.
MU's advantage is that Mbeumo is also willing to play at Old Trafford, even though he won't have a chance to play in the European Cup next season. He turned down the chance to play for Arsenal, Chelsea or Newcastle to wait for MU.
However, MU will also face difficulties if they sign Mbeumo. The reason comes from the fact that this striker will have to be absent from Old Trafford for a period of time to compete in CAN (African Nations Championship).
This year, CAN will take place from December 21 to January 18, 2026. The Cameroon team of both Mbeumo and Andre Onana is in the same group with Gabon, Ivory Coast and Mozambique.
Although there is no official match schedule yet, MU fans are still worried that the team's strength will be affected if Onana or Mbeumo (if joining) are absent. This is also the sprint period when the teams are stretched on many fronts. Last season, the "Red Devils" played 3 matches in this same period.

If Cameroon progress to the final, Mbeumo and Onana could miss up to 10 of United's matches. Not only Cameroon's star duo, Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast) and Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco) could also be absent for the same reason.
FIFA's decision to move the CAN to winter instead of summer as planned has caused major disruption to the club's schedule. MU will not be able to prevent Mbeumo, Onana, Amad or Mazraoui from joining the national team if called up, because they are all key stars.
The absence of the above mentioned group of players during the important period of the season could greatly affect MU's ambition to compete for a position in the top 4.
