Closing the session on April 30, the price of 6 gold bars at SJC Ho Chi Minh City was 9999 million dong/tael (buying in) and 66,35 million dong/tael (sold out). SJC Hanoi listed at 66,95 million dong/tael (buying in) and 66,35 million dong/tael (sold out).
Doji Hanoi listed at 66,4 million dong/tael (buy in) and 67 million dong/tael (sold out). Doji Ho Chi Minh City bought SJC gold at 66,45 million dong/tael, sold at 66,95 million dong/tael.
Central exchange rate on 1/7 announced by the State Bank is 23.800 VND/USD. USD price at commercial banks this morning (April 1) was trading around 7 VND/USD (buying in) and 23.380 VND/USD (selling out).
International gold price today
At 9:37 am today (May 1, Vietnam time), the world spot gold price stood around the threshold of 1.919,8 USD/ounce, up 12,8 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Gold futures for August delivery on Comex New York were at $8 per ounce.
On the world market, spot gold price on June 30 (Vietnam time) traded at 6 USD/ounce.
Gold continued to decline as it was pressured by some upbeat US economic data. The US Federal Reserve (Fed) has paused interest rate hikes this month, but is expected to raise rates again in July 7.
GDP figures show that the US economy is holding up better than expected and pave the way for the Fed to continue raising interest rates.
For the week, the number of US initial jobless claims fell by 26.000 (to 239.000). This is in contrast to economists' predictions, which said the number of initial jobless claims rose to 265.000 last week.
Year-to-date, the S&P 500 is up about 14%. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 29,9 percent, its best in 40 years.
Gold price forecast
David Meger, an expert at High Ridge Futures, said that gold's price dropped from about $2.000 an ounce to $1.900 an ounce, prompting investors to buy more. However, the short-term outlook for gold has not been positive.
Everett Millman, precious metals expert at Gainesville Coins forecast, the support level of gold price is 1.900 USD/ounce, followed by 1.880 USD/ounce.
