A fortified underground bunker in the heart of Iran's capital, Tehran, was targeted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in airstrikes in March.
Iran International recently cited architectural plans received from a close source, stating that the underground complex of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei includes a high-pressure bomb-proof room and escape tunnels.
Iran International stated that the authenticity of these documents had also been confirmed by a security source.
According to Iran International, diagrams show that this complex, known as Habib Ebrahimi, is located right next to Khamenei's official residence.
The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is believed to have begun construction on the site in 2009 with the approval of Khamenei, funding the project through the IRGC's Khatam al-Anbiya General Directorate of Construction.
According to the diagrams, the main entrance is large enough to allow cars to drive inside and access a depth of 30 meters underground.
The complex is also said to include a 27-meter-long tunnel connecting to various escape routes and a second tunnel reportedly leading to a parking lot near Enghelab Square in central Tehran.
In early March, Israel targeted the bunker using intelligence provided by the IDF's covert units 8200 and 9900 to locate its position.
At the time, the IDF said 50 aircraft had dropped more than 100 projectiles/bombs targeting secret underground bunkers spread across several blocks in central Tehran.
Iran International further noted that some images also depicted a five-story underground office complex for high-ranking officials under the Supreme Leader's Office.
Sources familiar with the project told Iran International that the site is disguised beneath a sports center.
Sources say the facility includes a three-story parking garage, target ranges (shooting ranges), and two bunkers located approximately 30-35 meters below the surface. One of the bunkers contains a high-pressure bomb-proof chamber to protect Khamenei from explosives.
Khamenei and several high-ranking Iranian officials were killed in an Israeli and US airstrike on February 28.
Israel is believed to have hacked into Tehran's extensive network of traffic cameras to monitor the bodyguards of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials.
Israel accessed this camera system years ago and discovered a camera angle that showed where members of Khamenei's security team parked their vehicles. Through these cameras, Israeli intelligence built profiles of the addresses, work schedules, and protected individuals of the bodyguards.
Having obtained crucial information about a meeting scheduled for the morning of February 28th at a government complex in the heart of Tehran, which houses the offices of the Iranian President, Supreme Leader, and National Security Council, the US and Israel decided to accelerate their airstrike plans. The airstrike targeted the meeting, which was attended by a number of high-ranking Iranian officials.
