For over 10 years, every Tuesday morning, the Dien Temple charity kitchen has been bustling with activity. Many members and women work together to prepare vegetarian meals for patients and their families at the Tan Tru Regional Medical Center and other needy individuals in the area. Each week, the kitchen prepares over 200 vegetarian meals, divided equally between morning and afternoon.
Ms. Truong Thi Tuyet Mai, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tan Tru commune and Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Tan Tru commune, said: "Despite many difficulties in terms of funding and human resources, thanks to the joint efforts of members, women, and philanthropists, the kitchen is still maintained regularly, helping patients reduce the financial burden during treatment."
To ensure hot meals reach patients on time, the members start work early in the morning. Some go to the market, others prepare the food, and some cook... everyone works together seamlessly. Cooking for charity is hard work but enjoyable; everyone has a task, and the atmosphere is always full of energy. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, head of the Women's Association in Binh Dien hamlet, shared: "I've been involved with the kitchen for over 6 years now. Every time I see patients receive their meals and enjoy them, I feel so happy!"
As one of the people who have been involved with the Dien Temple kitchen since its early days, Mrs. Tran Thi Loan, despite being over 80 years old, still regularly comes to help. Mrs. Loan confided: “When it was first established, the kitchen faced many difficulties, always lacking supplies. Sometimes we had to use our own money to buy rice and vegetables to keep the kitchen running. Thinking about the sick who were even more struggling than ourselves, everyone tried their best. Now, with many people working together, things are a little easier. As for me, as long as I have the strength, I will continue to help the kitchen.” It is known that the kitchen initially had 8 members, and now it has increased to 20 participants.
The donated meals not only help reduce costs but also serve as a source of encouragement for patients. Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Chau (residing in Tan Tru commune), currently receiving treatment at the Tan Tru Regional Medical Center, shared: “My family is facing financial difficulties, and hospitalization incurs many expenses. Having these charitable meals helps me alleviate some of the costs and feel more at ease during my treatment.”
Amidst life's many worries, the warm, comforting vegetarian meals handed to recipients offer a comforting warmth of human connection. And with the charitable hearts of the members and women, the flame of love from the kitchen continues to burn brightly, silently spreading throughout the community.
