Over the years, the photography movement in An Giang has achieved many outstanding results. The team of photographers has continuously improved their creative abilities, producing many valuable works. To create opportunities for both professional and amateur photographers to participate in photography, the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations organizes numerous photography competitions annually with diverse themes, vividly reflecting life, cultural festivals, scenic spots, historical relics, the sea, and islands of the homeland… Many competitions have received participation from a large number of authors with many high-quality works.
Many photographers have won awards in provincial, regional, and national photography competitions with works inspired by border, sea, and island themes, such as Truong Anh Dung, Tu The Huy, Truong Phu Quoc , Truong Minh Dien, etc. These works, imbued with the realistic spirit of border regions, seas, and islands, contribute positively to propaganda efforts, raising awareness among all segments of the population about protecting border, sea, and island sovereignty, and fostering patriotism and national pride.
Photographer Truong Minh Dien, a member of the Photography Branch of the Union of Literature and Arts Associations of the province, always seeks inspiration and dedication to creating works on the themes of the border, sea, and islands. To produce authentic, vivid, and unique works that leave a lasting impression on the public, he frequently goes on field trips to explore, experience, and immerse himself in life. Besides images of the beauty of his homeland, the beauty of the sea and islands of his hometown, Truong Minh Dien's works also depict the life, work, activities, training, and fighting of the soldiers and people in the border regions of the country. All of this is conveyed in a colorful, romantic, and gentle way to the viewer. Most recently, photographer Truong Minh Dien won first prize in the province's 2025 traditional art photography competition with his work "Maintaining Peace at the Forefront of the Waves." This captures a moment of a soldier patrolling the sea, undeterred by the stormy weather, fulfilling his duty and protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands.
The themes of borders, seas, and islands have always been popular choices for photographers, not only out of a sense of responsibility but also from strong emotions evoked by the vivid reality. Photographer Truong Minh Dien shared: “Besides the beautiful natural scenery, borders, seas, and islands are a favorite subject for me. They awaken national pride and love for my homeland in my heart. Through this theme, I hope to express my love for my homeland and spread beautiful images of my country. As an artist, I believe I have a responsibility to convey the message of promoting patriotism and protecting the sovereignty of the nation's borders, seas, and islands to the public.”
With over 10 years of experience behind the camera, often creating photographs on the themes of borders, seas, and islands, photographer Tu The Duy – a member of the Photography Branch of the Union of Literature and Arts Associations of An Giang province – has produced many impressive works of art. His award-winning works mostly depict the natural beauty of the sea and islands, vividly reflecting the cultural beauty of the land and people of An Giang. In 2021, Duy received a gold medal at the national art photography competition on the theme of the sea and islands of his homeland with the work "Tuy Phong Beach Village". The photograph perfectly captures the moment when fishing boats are anchored under the sunset against a backdrop of clear, beautiful blue sea.
Duy shared: “I live by the sea, I love the sea and I love the place where I was born. For me, every time I take a photo, I always try to convey a message, a story that evokes emotions in the viewer. I want to spread my love for my homeland and country to everyone. The joy after each time I press the shutter button is preserving beautiful images of my homeland to share with everyone.”
According to Nguyen Huu Dinh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations, creating photographic works with the theme of borders, seas, and islands has great significance in contributing to arousing love for the borderlands, seas, and islands of the Fatherland among the public, serving the political tasks of the locality, and propagating and raising awareness among all strata of the people about protecting border sovereignty.
"In the future, the association will continue to create opportunities for members and artists to go on field trips to many places so that they can create high-quality, meaningful, and profound photographic works that deeply reflect social life, contributing to building a richer, more diverse, advanced, and distinctly national cultural and artistic life," Mr. Dinh said.
