Provincial leaders and the public enjoyed the concert.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh presents flowers to the conductor of the orchestra.
The orchestra presented excerpts from many world- renowned composers in diverse styles. The entire audience was immersed in a range of uplifting emotions. At times, it was the cheerful, lively Pizzicato Polka by the Austrian composer Johann Strauss. At other times, it was the romantic and melodious tune of Edward Elgar's "A Love Greeting." Occasionally, one could hear the clatter of horse-drawn carriages on cobblestone streets or the chirping of birds, mimicked by the clarinet .
Particularly at the concert, the audience had the opportunity to hear the work " My Homeland in the Land of Wind and Sand " by composer Huy So, arranged for symphony by conductor Olivier Ochanine , to serve the people of Phan Thiet . A symphony performed with pride and joy. This came as a surprise to the composer himself and the audience , especially the young people.
The concert featured musician Huy So, one of the leading figures in the local arts scene. He is a talented and dedicated individual who deeply cares for his homeland, Binh Thuan . Despite his advanced age, upon unexpectedly hearing his own work performed, musician Huy So was deeply moved and shared: “I was truly surprised; I didn’t think my work would be performed. I feel very emotional and happy right now.”
The 350-seat venue created a warm and inviting atmosphere for the concert. The orchestra played without amplification, yet the string instruments produced clear, distinct notes. The audience was once again immersed in the timeless melodies of classic works from Europe and Asia. The orchestra featured 38 musicians from various countries around the world, including Vietnam. The musicians stated that it was an honor to perform in Binh Thuan. The kindness and warmth of the people of this coastal region truly made it a beloved destination for each member of the orchestra.
Conductor Olivier Ochanine of the Sun Symphony Orchestra shared: "This is the first time in Phan Thiet that we have been so warmly welcomed in such a friendly and warm atmosphere. I am very happy to perform today. I hope that one day I will have the opportunity to organize even more spectacular performances in Phan Thiet city. Although it only lasted an hour, the concert left a special impression on the audience, providing a new and refreshing form of entertainment for the people of this coastal city in recent days."
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, former director of the Provincial Cultural Center, this is the second concert in 20 years that the people of Phan Thiet have had the opportunity to experience high-quality music – symphonic music . The first performance took place on an outdoor stage, with the Ho Chi Minh City Symphony Orchestra and Opera House bringing symphonies and operas to Phan Thiet. At that time, Professor and composer Ca Le Thuan, then Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, gave a talk on symphonic music and opera, followed by a performance. The symphony orchestra performed many pieces , but the most memorable were "Persian Market" by the English composer Albert William Ketèlbey, composed in 1920, and the opera "Red Pearl," composed by Professor Ca Le Thuan along with artist Nghiem Chi (scriptwriter) and People's Artist Vu Viet Cuong (director), based on the legend of My Chau and Trong Thuy. The orchestra was conducted by musician Tran Vuong Thach. I hope that when the provincial theater and arts exhibition center is completed , it can focus on this art form to serve the public.
Mr. Vo Thanh Huy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: Musician Huy So was recently awarded the title of Meritorious Artist by President Vo Van Thuong on November 28th for his many contributions to the building and development of the nation's culture.
