On the evening of November 29th (Vietnam time), the 13th round of the Premier League will begin, featuring fierce competition among mid-table teams.
Except for Arsenal, everyone else is unstable.
After 12 rounds, Arsenal are far ahead with 23 points, completely dominating the top of the table. However, the gap between Chelsea in second place (23 points) and Liverpool in twelfth place is only 5 points. Therefore, huge changes in the standings could easily occur after just 2-3 rounds. Most fans believe this will be Arsenal's season, as Mikel Arteta's team is not only strong and consistent, but also very determined to win their first Premier League title after more than two decades without a trophy.
But choosing a team strong enough to challenge Arsenal, or at least secure a Champions League spot next season, is no easy task. Currently in second place, Chelsea have failed to inspire confidence over the past three years regarding their ability to compete over the long term. Enzo Maresca's team may be unpredictable in big matches, but they make far too many mistakes and their defense is far too weak for a top team.
For Man City, manager Pep Guardiola seems truly outdated. Haaland's devastating form makes it difficult for Man City to be knocked out of the top four. But on days when superstar striker Haaland's magic wears off, Man City are very vulnerable to defeat.
And Liverpool, Man United, and Tottenham – the remaining three teams in the traditional "big 6" of English football – are causing immense disappointment. Don't be too surprised if all three giants finish the season outside the top four.
Everyone is a "dark horse".
Over the past three years, English football circles have repeatedly debated whether Newcastle and Aston Villa should be added to the group of top clubs, as these two teams have been more consistent than Manchester United and Tottenham.
The answer has never been clear, because generally speaking, Newcastle and Aston Villa, despite their noticeable progress, have yet to demonstrate the convincing strength of a "big club." And they have never even come close to challenging for the title. On the other hand, Manchester United and Tottenham still possess abundant resources to continuously upgrade their squads. The "Big 6" remain unchanged. And instead, the media is now considering... expanding the list of Premier League giants.
With Newcastle and Aston Villa, the Premier League now boasts eight teams with considerable depth and a wealth of talent. And not only that, if we lower the standards a bit, fans will realize that English football has more than 10 such teams.
There's Crystal Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth... They've all been well above the relegation zone for many years, and they possess explosive young stars. If they maintain their fighting spirit, they could very well become a new "Aston Villa".
In a season where so many big clubs are unstable, the opportunity for smaller, more financially strong teams in the Premier League to rise to the occasion is enormous.
