(Chinhphu.vn) - After one month of taking over the state management task of examining and issuing driver's licenses for road motor vehicles, the Ministry of Public Security has received data on over 60.4 million driver's licenses.

According to Colonel Pham Quang Huy, Deputy Director of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security), in parallel with receiving driver's license data, the Ministry of Public Security has revised and upgraded the software for driver's license examination and issuance. In particular, the software for issuing and renewing driver's licenses on the National Public Service Portal has increased its capacity from 3,000 to 10,000 licenses per day. The Ministry also organized training and evaluation sessions to issue examiner cards to traffic police officers in localities.

According to Colonel Pham Quang Huy, from March 1st to March 27th, 2025, local police forces deployed the issuance and renewal of driver's licenses at 63 traffic police offices and more than 700 direct application points at commune, ward, and town levels or at public administrative centers nationwide to serve the public quickly and conveniently. They received 152,354 applications for driver's license renewal and re-issuance, of which 125,416 were received directly.

The Traffic Police Department has digitally signed 94,887 cases of driver's license renewal and re-issuance; and automatically updated electronic driver's licenses for citizens on the VNeID electronic identification application for 93,890 cases.

Regarding driver's license examinations, the Traffic Police Department is urgently preparing the necessary technical and personnel resources to implement the process in April 2025. The Ministry of Public Security has implemented the process of receiving applications for driver's license renewals and reissues at commune-level police stations – where renewal points are designated; and is strengthening the processing of applications received through the public service portal. The Ministry of Public Security recommends that citizens carry out administrative procedures electronically to minimize costs and inconvenience.

Prior to March 1st, the nationwide traffic police force began implementing several basic functions and tasks, such as: organizing driving tests and issuing driver's licenses for automobiles; receiving applications for license renewals and replacements, and issuing international driver's licenses, after taking over these tasks from the transportation sector.

During the preparation process, traffic police forces organized training for more than 1,800 officers and soldiers nationwide to participate in the examination, issuance, and renewal of driver's licenses.
