Indonesian football is mired in violence.

Violent tackles usually result in a three-match suspension, but in Indonesia, this shocking incident led to two players being banned from all football activities for life.

Indonesian player kicks opponent in the face. On January 8th, Dwi Pilihanto Nugroho of KAFI FC launched a kung-fu-style kick directly to the face of Amirul Mutaqin during their 1-0 victory against UAD in Liga 4.

The incident occurred during a Liga 4 match between Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) FC and Kampungqu Football Indonesia (KAFI) on January 8th. KAFI won 1-0, but the 78th minute turned the game into a point of controversy when Dwi Pilihanto Nugroho kicked Amirul Mutaqin of UAD directly in the head while attempting to clear the ball.

The horrific collision left Mutaqin collapsing on the pitch in agony. Although the referee only gave Dwi a yellow card, the UAD player was forced to leave the field and was taken to the hospital for an X-ray due to intense pain in his jaw.

The results showed no broken bones, but Mutaqin still experienced pain when speaking and chewing, requiring further monitoring for 6-7 days and possibly a CT scan if the condition did not improve.

After receiving the report, the PSSI Disciplinary Committee investigated and concluded that Dwi violated several provisions of the 2025 Disciplinary Code. Wendy Umar Seno Aji affirmed that this was "a serious foul causing jaw injury to the opposing player."

As a result, Dwi was banned from all football activities in Indonesia, fined, and immediately dismissed by KAFI. The club supported the ruling, affirming that it would not tolerate any behavior contrary to the spirit of fair play, and hoping this would be a final lesson for Indonesian football to avoid repeating such ugly incidents.

The incident caused outrage on January 5th.

Three days earlier, Muhammad Hilmi Gimnastiar had a similar brutal tackle when Putra Jaya lost to Perseta 1970 Tulungagung 2-7 in the round of 32 of Liga 4. Hilmi of Putra Jaya did not contest the ball but instead launched a kung-fu-style kick straight to the chest of Firman Nugraha Adhiansyah.

The East Java Football Federation (PSSI Jatim) decided to ban Hilmi from playing permanently and fined him 2.5 million rupiah. Putra Jaya FC also immediately terminated Hilmi's contract.

The series of violent incidents reveals that Indonesian football is facing a serious crisis in discipline and sportsmanship. With increasingly frequent and potentially fatal tackles, the sport is gradually losing its inherent spirit . Without drastic corrective measures, the prestige and development of Indonesian football will continue to be eroded.
