FIFA's initial kit design for the Brazil vs. Scotland match. |
Just hours before their final Group C match against Scotland at the 2026 World Cup , the Brazilian national team unexpectedly changed their goalkeeper kit. According to the initial plan announced by FIFA, the Brazilian goalkeepers, including Alisson Becker, Ederson Moraes, and Weverton, were to wear completely red kits, including shirts, shorts, and socks.
However, this plan was canceled at the last minute. Instead, the Selecao goalkeepers will wear green kits in the match on June 25th.
Sources from Brazilian media indicate that the decision to change the kit stemmed from a request by the President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Samir Xaud. Because Scotland's colors did not clash with the green kit worn by the Brazilian goalkeeper, FIFA agreed to allow the South American team to adjust their attire.
This isn't the first time President Samir Xaud has expressed a firm stance regarding the colors of the national team's jerseys. In 2025, he opposed a plan to use a red alternate jersey developed by Nike for the Brazilian national team.

At the time, the head of the CBF asserted that his decision was not politically motivated but stemmed from a desire to protect the team's traditional identity.
“Blue, yellow, green, and white are the colors of the Brazilian flag. Those are the colors that should be respected. I opposed the red shirt not for political reasons. That shirt design had actually entered the production phase, and I had to hold an emergency meeting with Nike to ask them to stop,” Samir Xaud once stated.
It's worth noting that the color red is not entirely unfamiliar to Brazilian goalkeepers. In the past, the "Selecao" custodians have often worn red uniforms, especially during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Goalkeeper Julio Cesar also wore red in important matches for the national team.
Against Scotland, the Brazilian players will take to the field in their traditional kit of yellow shirts, white shorts, and white socks, while the goalkeepers will switch to green following the latest decision by the CBF.
