Immediately after Brazil's comeback victory against Japan with a 2-1 scoreline, midfielder Casemiro stated that Brazil avoided one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history by remaining "calm" when unexpectedly falling behind.

Kaishu Sano's 29th-minute goal raised the risk of Brazil suffering their first-ever defeat against an Asian opponent and being eliminated from the World Cup earlier than ever since their group stage exit in 1966.
But then, Casemiro's equalizer in the second half, followed by Gabriel Martinelli's winning goal in injury time, helped Brazil turn the tide and secure their place in the round of 16, where they will face either Norway or Ivory Coast in New Jersey on July 5th.
“This victory came from our calmness and patience in putting pressure on a team that played deep defensively,” Casemiro said, “This was the most important aspect – believing that calmness would lead to moments where we could score.”
“We fought hard throughout the match and controlled the ball, so we knew we would have a chance. Japan defended very solidly, but we played very well in the second half and won. We are really looking forward to the round of 16, but right now, we need to rest and think about the four more matches we have.”
Casemiro and former West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá were unable to complete the match due to injuries. Manager Carlo Ancelotti said both players would be examined within 24 hours to see if they would be fit to play at the weekend.
Martinelli's decisive goal was his fourth in 25 appearances for the Brazilian national team. The Arsenal player said it was an emotional moment to lead his country to the next round. "I don't even have words to express the joy I feel seeing the Brazilian people so happy," Martinelli told Caze TV.
