FIFA is under fire from FIFPro. |
Mr Marchi called it “a final wake-up call” for Gianni Infantino and the Zurich establishment, who he said “have forgotten that players are people, not tools”.
Marchi writes that the world of football remains stagnant despite so many promises. “A more humane football” exists only in rhetoric. In reality, players are still being squeezed out by endless seasons, with matches played every few days, traveling constantly and with no time to rest. He likens them to “an inexhaustible resource”, used without protection.
FIFPro is not just about fitness. Marchi highlighted the injustices that thousands of players are suffering: unpaid wages, breaches of contract, loss of professional development rights. He said FIFA “only talks and turns a blind eye”, continuing to organize tournaments with a heavy commercial focus, despite the harsh temperatures and unreasonable match schedules.
The culmination of the outrage was the statement: “I believe in dialogue, but I am ready for war.” Marchi affirmed that FIFPro would not be silent in the face of “undignified power” and demanded that FIFA take responsibility for its forgotten commitments.
In a football world dominated by money and copyright, the voice of FIFPro reiterates a simple but necessary point: football is about people, not commercial contracts.
