Tech experts believe that a foldable iPhone will bring the biggest change to Apple's popular line of devices.

In a Bloomberg Power On report, analyst Mark Gurman stated that a foldable iPhone would bring about "the biggest change in iPhone history," and expressed high expectations for the device.

"This will be the biggest change in iPhone history, and also the first major design update."

"The iPhone 4, iPhone 6, and iPhone X played an important role, but this will be a completely new design, although it will essentially borrow from models that competitors have released over the years," Gurman emphasized.

Similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold, the rumored foldable iPhone will feature a book-like design, allowing users to watch videos , play games, and run multiple apps on a larger screen.

"Having started using Samsung's foldable device nearly seven years ago, I still love the idea. The video viewing experience is better than all traditional smartphones, and the ability to fold it up and put it in a pocket is very convenient... I think a foldable iPhone could even replace an iPad in many cases," the Bloomberg writer emphasized.

Based on rumors, Apple will refine iOS 27 to optimize it for foldable iPhones, adding an iPad-style app layout and a dual-app view. This will improve multitasking capabilities, taking advantage of the larger screen size.

Apple is under pressure to differentiate itself with foldable smartphones. The first iPhone with the new design is expected to be unveiled in September, seven years after rival Samsung launched the first generation Galaxy Z Fold.

"Apple's design aims to make the device more appealing for video viewing. This also makes it easier for developers to redesign iPhone apps to resemble iPad software," Gurman quoted an anonymous source as saying.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities , the foldable iPhone will feature a 5.3-inch external screen and a 7.7-inch internal screen. The size of the internal screen could be approximately the same as the iPad mini, while the external screen will be comparable to a smaller iPhone.

Initially, foldable iPhones were rumored to use "nearly crease-free" screen technology. However, according to the latest information, Apple will apply technology that helps "reduce the crease" rather than eliminate it completely.

The foldable iPhone's outer screen is expected to integrate a punch-hole selfie camera. Apple will likely remove Face ID, instead integrating Touch ID into the power button, similar to some iPad models.

"Besides this solution, Apple has no other choice because the front of the foldable iPhone is too thin to accommodate Face ID. The circular hole design still supports the Dynamic Island interface for viewing notifications and app updates," Gurman emphasized.

Apple is expected to launch a foldable iPhone in September of this year, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. However, according to Gurman, the foldable iPhone will be available later than the Pro models. The estimated price in the US is around $2,000 or more.
