Promoting science and technology in conjunction with new product development.
At Workshop A5 of Factory Z183, a robotic arm skillfully places product components into the correct position on the support, preparing them for the next stage. Previously, lifting and placing heavy mechanical parts manually required three people; now, the robotic arm has completely replaced manual labor, freeing up manpower and significantly increasing productivity. Not far away is a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine, performing precision machining operations with high levels of automation. From the workshop to the control room, Factory Z183 is transforming day by day, not only sporting a new look but also significantly improving its production and business efficiency. During the 2020-2025 term, the factory's total revenue increased by an average of 25.18% per year, 2.5 times the set target. Contributions to the state budget increased by an average of 47.2% per year, 4.72 times the target. Profits increased by an average of 35.5%, reaching 5.91 times the target, and the average income of employees increased by 9.4% per year, reaching 1.88 times the target, with the final year of the term reaching 19.7 million VND/person/month.
Besides its primary mission of producing defense products for the Army's training and combat readiness, Factory Z183 is also actively developing the dual-use capabilities of its production line. Major Cao Huu Thong, Head of the Machining Team (Workshop A3, Factory Z183), stated that the workshop handles the mechanical processing of several defense and economic products. "With a modern, highly automated machinery system, one person can manage 2-3 pieces of equipment, significantly increasing labor productivity and ensuring consistent product quality," Major Cao Huu Thong explained.

With a strategy of investing in technological capacity and deeply participating in the supply chain, over the past five years, Factory Z183 has put into production a series of 14 new products, including 5 export products, exceeding the target by 2 products. Z183 has become the largest domestic supplier of fire prevention and firefighting products (various types of hydrants, water valves, fire extinguishers, nozzles, fire hose reels...) and exportable steel boxes. To promote science and technology work associated with new product development, the Factory Party Committee issued a resolution on leading the promotion of scientific research and the manufacture of new weapons and technical equipment. It can be affirmed that science and technology work has contributed to improving production capacity, helping to successfully develop many economic products and serving as the basis for the Factory being entrusted with the task of producing and repairing 6 new national defense products.
According to Colonel Bui Van Luong, Party Secretary and Chairman of the 83rd Mechanical Engineering Company Limited (Z183 Factory), strategic product lines such as fire prevention and firefighting products have been researched and developed by the factory over a long period, and currently continue to affirm their brand and maintain their market share. Along with ensuring the fulfillment of national defense tasks, the factory also aims to develop 10 new product lines for export and domestic consumption. In addition to strategic products, the factory will continue to research, improve, and develop other products, ensuring its sustainable and long-term development.
Rethinking, aiming for new heights.
Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science and technology, innovation, and national digital transformation; and Resolution No. 3488-NQ/QUTW of the Central Military Commission on breakthroughs in the development of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation in the Army have created important momentum for production units to improve productivity and competitiveness in line with a comprehensive and synchronized development orientation, using innovation as the driving force, digital transformation as the method, and science and technology as the foundation.
Implementing Resolution 57 and Resolution 3488, Factory Z183 has issued an implementation plan and established a Steering Committee for breakthrough development in science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation. The factory aims to continuously innovate its thinking, act creatively, decisively, and achieve breakthrough development to a new level. It is determined to build a factory with modern technology, capable of producing and repairing all types of artillery shells in its inventory, meeting the needs of the Army and for export. Simultaneously, it aims to become the world's largest supplier of packaging and storage products for ammunition, maintaining its leading position among suppliers of fire prevention and firefighting products.
Colonel Vuong Chi Toai, Director of Factory Z183, emphasized that to realize this goal, the factory is focusing on investment projects to expand, modernize, and increase the capacity of production and repair lines for various types of artillery shells in the medium-term public investment plan for 2026-2030. Along with that are projects to expand the scale and modernize the production of strategic economic products. The factory is also researching and selecting investment projects to build at least one smart workshop in the near future.

Sharing the unit's investment orientation, Colonel Bui Van Luong emphasized that innovation and the application of science and technology require resources. The factory's perspective is not to wait or rely on others, but to proactively propose and make the most of available resources, including existing ones. In particular, the factory aims to allocate the maximum amount from its production and business activities to the science and technology development fund, and to use this funding for scientific research. The rational use of resources for investment and development will help the factory supplement and upgrade its machinery, equipment, and technology, resolve bottlenecks in production, thereby improving the production line, increasing labor productivity, and enhancing product quality.
To truly master technology, the factory prioritizes the implementation of mechanisms and policies to attract, utilize, cultivate, and develop talent, with a particular focus on science and technology personnel. Specifically, it aims to select qualified personnel to participate in training courses for chief engineers and leading experts. It also strengthens cooperation with research institutes and academies on science and technology, the development of new weapons and technical equipment, and the exchange and training of personnel. Furthermore, the factory prioritizes funding to encourage and motivate young engineers and skilled workers to continue developing high-quality human resources. This is also a prerequisite for the factory to continue its breakthrough development, becoming a core defense industry facility in a modern direction.
