MCK, one of the most prominent rappers in Vietnam, has been "missing" from the Vpop race for more than two years since the album 99% (March 2023). With no new products, he chose to return with "surprise" remakes such as Thap Drill Tu Do, Haru Haru and most recently 2323. Although each time he releases music, it causes a fever, the audience is still waiting for an MCK with breakthrough creations to return.
What is MCK doing after the success of the album 99%?
MCK (real name Nghiem Vu Hoang Long, born in 1999) is the rapper who has made the most progress after Rap Viet season 1 (2020). This rapper is still controversial, but his talent cannot be denied. MCK has an attractive flow, unique melody rap style. The male rapper is also diverse in musical colors, from Hip-hop, R&B to Pop, helping him conquer many different audiences.
In particular, with his debut album 99% (released in March 2023), MCK has further consolidated his position instead of being just a "short-lived" phenomenon on a music game show. This product is highly appreciated by experts. 99% shows the hidden corners of MCK, about his career, about love, about his perspective on life. MCK shows clear maturity in this music product. Notably, all the songs in the album have achieved good results on music charts, showing that the audience also welcomes and loves MCK's music.

However, after the success of 99% , MCK suddenly "went into hiding". No official products have been released for more than two years, from March 2023 to the present. More notably, he has almost stopped being active on social networks since the end of 2024. On his personal page named Hoang Long, MCK still posts quite regularly. But the Fanpage with the blue tick has stopped posting since July 2024.
The way MCK posts on his personal page is not very similar to the image of a famous singer with a large fan base. Instead, the content of his posts is somewhat free, rebellious, and individualistic.
Because of that, MCK got into some controversies, such as posting a picture of herself wearing lingerie in front of a mirror with the words "for my pride" causing a stir in the online community.
The most important thing that makes MCK a strange singer of Rap Viet is his silence in music. While rappers of the same generation like HIEUTHUHAI or tlinh continuously release new products, MCK chooses a strange "silence", only appearing with "surprise" remakes without warning.
This absence has further increased curiosity about MCK. Is this a smart strategy or a sign of a stagnant, extremely creative artist?
MCK is still hot
As a tactic that has stagnated in music, MCK is still very hot. That is proven through the coverage of the improvised products that this male rapper has released recently. There was no prior announcement, nor a strong investment in image, but each product caused a fever in the market when released.
The first is Big Bang - Not Important released in March 2024. This product has many reasons to become a "big bang" in the music market. It is a refresher in both image and music from the legendary MV Haru Haru of the famous group Big Bang. The product also has the participation of many names, in addition to MCK, JustaTee, Tage and Phuong Ly... In addition to the attractiveness in music, Big Bang - Not Important at that time spread across the internet, attracting a lot of discussion. After more than a year of release, the MV reached nearly 14 million views.

Next is Thap drill tu do, released by MCK in April. This product was remade by the male rapper from the Free Fall Tower by Chinese singer LBI Loi Bi. Only nearly 2 minutes long and without an accompanying MV, Thap drill tu do reached 20 million views by the afternoon of July 29. This number is enough to overwhelm many carefully invested products.
It is worth mentioning that Thap drill tu do has initiated a music making trend among rappers and at the same time defeated HIEUTHUHAI's Crocodile Tears to climb to number 1 on the trending music list.
In just a short time, dozens of Vietnamese rappers and artists such as Obito, CoolKid, Ngo Thien Vu (Lil Van), TEZ, RTee, Hoang Green, RIO, Hazel, Indie.K, BAN, VSoul... have participated, creating hundreds of different versions, from Free Trap Tower, Free Soul Tower, Free Trap Girl to Free Falling Water ... The trend that has the support of so many rappers in Vietnamese music is quite rare.
Most recently, MCK has remade Son Tung M-TP's "Bung doi tay nhau ra ". The discussion on social networks once again belongs to this male rapper. The song 2323 reached 1.6 million views after about a day of release. With this comeback, the praise for MCK is no longer as overwhelming as previous products.
Instead, there are many conflicting opinions that the product is not attractive enough. The excessive tuning is also the reason why many listeners regret about 2323. However, the buzz surrounding this work still proves that the more MCK hides, the more mysterious and interested he becomes.
In addition to remakes, MCK also contributed his voice to the products of some colleagues, typically AMEE's Mong Yu released in 2024.
MCK is a rare phenomenon in Vietnamese rap: talented and "arrogant", full of controversy but still creating trends. Remakes like Thap Drill Tu Do or 2323 show his skillful "remixing" ability, but also put him under pressure to overcome the shadow of 99% . With his absence on social media and only appearing through "surprise" products, MCK is playing a mysterious game. Is he plotting a new album or continuing to "play" with remakes?
