According to information from the National Power System and Electricity Market Operator (NSMO), after one hour of switching off lights for Earth Hour 2025 (from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on March 22nd), the whole country saved 448,000 kWh of electricity, equivalent to approximately 942.2 million VND.

Earth Hour is one of the annual global events for environmental protection, with participation from many countries and territories.

The Earth Hour campaign has brought about significant changes in the awareness and actions of people around the world regarding energy conservation and environmental protection.

Starting in Sydney, Australia in 2007 with over 2 million participants, the campaign has now attracted support from nearly 200 countries and territories, with billions of people worldwide joining in.

The Earth Hour campaign in Vietnam, co-organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Vietnam and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, attracted the attention and participation of all 63 provinces and cities, as well as a large number of people from all walks of life.

Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) is one of the exemplary units, always actively coordinating to effectively implement the program. 2025 marks the 17th time Vietnam has participated in this campaign.

Building on the ripple effect of Earth Hour and the achievements of previous years, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has launched the "National Energy Saving Campaign in Response to Earth Hour 2025" with the message "Green Transition - Green Future."

The movement goes beyond simply advocating for electricity conservation; it also aims for a broader goal: encouraging sustainable energy production, increasing the use of renewable energy, promoting the application of energy-saving products and equipment, and contributing to improved energy efficiency in both economic and environmental aspects.

To ensure the program's activities are meaningful and effective, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-administered cities, and the Vietnam Electricity Group to coordinate communication activities in response to Earth Hour in March. These activities aim to attract the attention of numerous organizations, agencies, and people in the provinces and cities to participate in the campaign; and to encourage organizations, agencies, and people to switch off lights and unnecessary equipment during the Earth Hour event.

In response to the Earth Hour campaign, EVN is leveraging the widespread influence of the internet, digital transformation, and social media to promote awareness about electricity conservation and environmental protection.

The corporation has instructed its subsidiaries to post content in support of the Earth Hour 2025 campaign on digital media channels such as websites, Zalo, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, etc., using diverse and engaging formats such as infographics, images, and video clips, in order to attract attention and spread awareness widely in the community.

The corporation also requested that power corporations and power companies in provinces and cities intensify propaganda on electricity saving and environmental protection at customer transaction locations and unit headquarters.

At the same time, we encourage organizations, agencies, and customers to support the campaign by turning off unnecessary lights and electrical appliances between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM on Saturday, March 22nd.

After years of active participation, the Earth Hour campaign in Vietnam has spread strongly throughout the country, becoming a meaningful annual event held every March.

From raising awareness through propaganda and education, the campaign has made a significant contribution to transforming mindsets into concrete actions, encouraging the community to practice electricity conservation, efficient energy use, and environmental protection.
