On June 17th, the People's Committee of Thuan Hoa Ward ( Hue City) coordinated with relevant agencies to receive a freshwater crocodile voluntarily handed over by a resident after discovering the animal had wandered into their yard.
The incident occurred on the evening of June 16th, when Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Suong (residing in Thuan Hoa ward) unexpectedly discovered a crocodile crawling in her yard.
Immediately afterwards, Ms. Suong promptly notified and coordinated with the authorities to handle the matter according to regulations.
Upon receiving the report, the Department of Economy , Infrastructure and Urban Development of Thuan Hoa Ward coordinated with the Forest Protection Department of the central area of Hue City to collect the crocodile.
Upon examination, the crocodile weighs approximately 3kg and is nearly 1 meter long. Its health is currently stable, and it is being temporarily cared for and managed by the authorities.
According to representatives of the authorities, after completing the procedures for managing and protecting wildlife, this crocodile will be handed over to a specialized rescue unit.
Specifically, the authorities have affirmed that they will not release the crocodile back into its natural environment in order to ensure the safety of the local ecosystem and to comply with legal regulations.
Ms. Suong's proactive actions in reporting and handing over wild animals have been recognized and highly appreciated, contributing to improved effectiveness in biodiversity conservation in Hue City.
