Flower villages are bustling with activity as Tet approaches.

With just over a week left until the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, production in flower villages across the country is entering a bustling phase. This year, the prices of many types of flowers and ornamental plants tend to increase slightly, but remain stable.

Nhat Tan peaches are busy preparing for Tet.

These days, the atmosphere in the peach blossom gardens of Nhat Tan, Hong Ha ward (Hanoi) is busier than ever. From dawn, the entire area along the Red River embankment is filled with laughter, chatter, and the sounds of motorbikes and cars carrying flowers back and forth into the city and to neighboring provinces. Along every village road, peach blossoms are in full bloom, creating a vibrant pink ribbon along the riverbank.

According to Mr. Tran Duy Thuan, owner of Tuan Viet peach orchard, his family has about 700 peach trees, most of which have already been ordered by customers. Despite the impact of floods and increased input costs, the price of peaches this year has only increased slightly, by about 10% compared to last year. Thanks to this, purchasing power has been maintained and the market remains quite stable.

At many nurseries, small peach blossom branches are currently sold for 100-200 thousand dong; peach blossoms with cascading or round shapes have various prices depending on size, with common prices ranging from 200 thousand to one million dong per branch. Shaped peach blossom trees can cost from one million to tens of millions of dong per tree, depending on the shape and age of the tree.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen ( from Bac Ninh ) shared that every year her family buys peach blossoms from Nhat Tan. The peach blossoms there have a unique, vibrant color, thick petals, large buds, long-lasting blooms, and branches with many young shoots. Buying a beautiful peach blossom branch is like bringing good luck and the spirit of spring home. Besides buying peach blossoms, she also combines it with taking family photos, preserving beautiful moments with loved ones in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).

By now, most nurseries have completed the final step of transplanting the seedlings into pots and are just waiting for customers to come and choose their purchases.

According to Tran Tuan Viet, Chairman of the Nhat Tan Traditional Peach Blossom Village Association, most gardeners have completed the final step of transplanting the trees into pots and are now just waiting for customers to choose and buy them. However, there are still many concerns between now and the Lunar New Year, as peach blossom cultivation is heavily dependent on the weather. This year, with two months of June, although the farmers carefully calculated the timing of leaf removal, the erratic weather has caused many peach blossom areas to bloom early.

As of the 15th day of the 12th lunar month, approximately 40% of the peach blossoms in Nhat Tan have bloomed. Currently, locals are implementing various techniques to delay the flowering. However, with the alternating cold and warm weather, it is estimated that about 50-60% of the peach blossoms may bloom before Tet (Lunar New Year).

Wide variety of types and designs

For about a month now, the Tet holiday atmosphere has permeated all the roads leading to Phung Cong commune ( Hung Yen province), one of the largest flower-growing areas in the Northern region. This year, flower growers here are very excited because the market is bustling earlier than expected, with prices of flowers and ornamental plants increasing by about 15-20% compared to the same period last year. Since the end of November in the lunar calendar, most of the local flower and ornamental plant area has been purchased by traders. Not only traditional flowers like orchids, roses, and poinsettias, but this year, indoor plants and imported flowers such as camellias, azaleas, and money trees are also very popular.

Phung Cong commune currently has over 350 hectares of land dedicated to growing flowers and ornamental plants. With systematic investment, more than 80% of the flower cultivation area is equipped with greenhouses, net houses, and automatic irrigation systems, minimizing the impact of external factors and establishing the brand of high-value ornamental plants.

In Lam Dong province, to serve the market during the Lunar New Year, gardeners have planted approximately 4,000 hectares of flowers, with an estimated yield of about 1.6 billion stems, including main varieties such as roses, gladioli, lilies, carnations, and chrysanthemums. According to many gardeners, the market is generally quite stable this year. Currently, people are actively tending to their plants to ensure the supply of the highest quality products to the market.

For the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, Sa Dec flower village (Dong Thap province) is expected to supply more than 1.3 million flower baskets of various types to the market.

According to Ms. Le Thi Bang Tuyen, a long-time flower grower in Sa Dec flower village, due to the weather, about 60-70% of her family's chrysanthemum crop and that of many neighboring households have bloomed early, only selling for 30,000-40,000 VND per pot. However, thanks to diversified cultivation, innovative flower varieties, and the combination with tourism development, the market is generally relatively stable. By mid-December, about 50% of Ms. Tuyen's Tet flower crop had already been ordered by traders.

Besides traditional flower varieties such as chrysanthemums, roses, cockscomb, gerberas, marigolds, and lucky bamboo, many nurseries have boldly planted new varieties such as Dutch chrysanthemums, lotus chrysanthemums, and "double happiness" chrysanthemums, which are very popular with consumers.

Similar to chrysanthemum growers in Sa Dec, many flower villages across the country are also facing the situation where flowers bloom prematurely before Tet, causing prices to plummet to only 30-50% of what they were during the peak season.

The weather from now until the end of the year is predicted to remain unpredictable. To ensure a successful flower harvest, authorities recommend that people closely monitor temperature changes to take timely measures to inhibit or encourage flowering. If the weather is severely cold, it is necessary to increase protection with plastic sheeting or use electric heaters to stimulate flowering at the right time. In addition, it is necessary to proactively apply appropriate techniques for each type of flower; increase foliar fertilization, use micronutrient fertilizers and organic microbial fertilizers for plants, helping to produce dense buds, long-lasting flowers, and beautiful appearance...
