On May 4th, Chiesa was brought on as a substitute for Tsimikas in the 82nd minute of the match against Chelsea in the 35th round of the Premier League by manager Arne Slot. This was the Italian striker's fifth appearance for Liverpool in the top flight of English football. In his limited time on the pitch, the former Juventus star did not make a significant impact.
According to Premier League regulations, the winning team is awarded 40 commemorative medals. These medals are presented by the club to the manager, players, and officials they deem appropriate, provided that the players receiving the medals have played in at least five Premier League matches.
Before the match against Chelsea, coach Slot stated that he would make sure Chiesa received a medal. He said: "Chiesa has played four games, and I heard that in this country you need five appearances to receive a medal. Chiesa deserves it, and he will certainly be on the pitch in the next four matches."
Before Chiesa, only two Italian players had won a Premier League winner's medal: Mario Balotelli (Man City) and Carlo Cudicini (Chelsea). In the 2008/09 season, striker Federico Macheda was part of Manchester United's Premier League winning squad but was not eligible for a medal as he played fewer than 10 games.
As managers, four strategists have achieved this: Carlo Ancelotti, Antonio Conte (both Chelsea), Roberto Mancini (Manchester City), and Claudio Ranieri (Leicester City).
Chiesa has struggled to find playing opportunities since joining Liverpool from Juventus last summer. Prior to the crucial match against Chelsea, Chiesa had only played 12 games in all competitions. A return to Serie A this summer is a possibility.
Besides Italian teams, Chiesa is also considered a transfer target for Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce.
