On May 4, Chiesa was sent off the bench by coach Arne Slot to replace Tsimikas in the 82nd minute of the match against Chelsea in round 35 of the Premier League. This was the Italian striker's fifth appearance for Liverpool in the top flight of the English game. In the few minutes on the field, the former Juventus star did not make a significant impression.
Under Premier League rules, the champions are awarded 40 commemorative medals. These are awarded by the club to managers, players and officials as they see fit, provided the players receiving the medals have played in at least five Premier League games.
Before the match against Chelsea, coach Slot said he would create conditions for Chiesa to receive a medal. He said: "Chiesa played four games and I heard in this country you need five appearances to receive a medal. Chiesa deserves it, he will definitely be on the pitch in the next four games."
Before Chiesa, only two Italian players had won a Premier League championship medal: Mario Balotelli (Man City) and Carlo Cudicini (Chelsea). In the 2008/09 season, striker Federico Macheda was part of MU's Premier League championship team but was not eligible for a medal because he played less than 10 matches.
As coaches, there are 4 strategists who have done this: Carlo Ancelotti, Antonio Conte (with Chelsea), Roberto Mancini (Man City) and Claudio Ranieri (Leicester City).
Chiesa has struggled for playing time since joining Liverpool from Juventus last summer. Before the Chelsea clash, Chiesa had played just 12 games in all competitions. A return to Serie A this summer could be on the cards.
In addition to the Italian teams, Chiesa is also considered a transfer target for Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce.
