Road closure for Long Bien bridge repair, traffic chaos

On the morning of October 29, Long Bien Bridge was suddenly barricaded for routine repairs, forcing many motorcyclists to change direction to Chuong Duong Bridge, leading to traffic chaos. The barricading of the bridge caused traffic to shift to Chuong Duong Bridge and connecting roads such as Xuan Quan, Nguyen Van Cu, Ngoc Lam, Ai Mo... (Bo De Ward) to be seriously congested.

Regarding the above incident, a leader of Ha Hai Railway Joint Stock Company (the unit managing Long Bien Bridge) said that the road closure for repairing Long Bien Bridge was licensed by the Hanoi Department of Construction to the Regional Railway Project Management Board 1 - Vietnam Railway Corporation.

The construction permit issued by the Hanoi Department of Construction on October 27 shows that the construction unit is the joint venture of CK46 Joint Stock Company - Ha Hai Railway Joint Stock Company. The fencing is for the purpose of periodic repairs to the Tran Nhat Duat bridge section at km2+215, Hanoi - Dong Dang railway line.

Traffic conflicts occurred on many routes when Long Bien bridge was barricaded.

According to the traffic organization plan to serve the construction process, the road on Long Bien bridge, the road for non-motorized vehicles from Bo De ward to Hoan Kiem ward will be completely closed to non-motorized vehicles from Bo De ward to Hoan Kiem ward during the 65-day construction period, from October 27 to December 31. During this time, vehicles will be diverted to the direction of Long Bien - Xuan Quan road through Chuong Duong bridge.

For Tran Nhat Duat Street, the contractor will install a 6.5 m mobile barrier on Tran Nhat Duat Street (the remaining width of the road for traffic is 6.5 m). The duration will be 20 days (from October 27 to November 16)...

One side of Long Bien bridge has no traffic.

The license also requires that during the construction process, there must be a full system of signs, lighting, warning lights at night, and traffic guards on duty 24/7 at the barrier area and the entrance to the construction site to ensure traffic safety.

At the same time, coordinate with local authorities and relevant agencies to widely announce on mass media so that local people and traffic participants know.

Long Bien bridge head is fenced for periodic repairs.

However, a leader of Hoan Kiem ward said that it was not until the afternoon of October 29, after the ward proactively contacted the parties, that they received a permit for construction and repairs.

According to this leader, previously, Hoan Kiem ward and Hoan Kiem ward police did not know that Tran Nhat Duat street would be barricaded to serve traffic flow and organization for the construction of the periodic repair project of Tran Nhat Duat bridge km2+215, Hanoi - Dong Dang railway line.
