Where do kids go during the summer? The answer is to take them to the library. Many families have been using library cards to manage their children's time in the past few years.

Children are safe at the library and can immerse themselves in the world of books and newspapers. But does that mean that when they have nowhere else to go while the adults are away, they have no choice but to go to the library? That would be a sad situation for the library. Libraries cannot become makeshift babysitters like that.
Having a library card during the long summer months was something many children looked forward to. At the library, children could read the books they liked. Often, rare and expensive books were only available at bookstores and libraries. And not every child could access them at bookstores. Therefore, going to the library was the best opportunity to expand their knowledge and entertain themselves through reading their favorite books. Many children "lived" with the library. They would sit and wait for it to open and feel regret when it was over.
Libraries have gradually lost their prominence as reading culture has undergone a dramatic shift in recent years. Digital books, the internet, and mobile devices have transformed people's reading habits, including those of children. Many libraries have invested in modern, well-equipped facilities. However, these changes have failed to alter reading habits. Readers are dwindling, with some even likening libraries to monasteries.
These days, the library is unusually crowded. Partly because children, having just returned from summer vacation, want to rekindle their reading habits. Another reason is that many graduating students need a quiet space to study for their upcoming entrance exams for 10th grade and high school graduation exams. Not many people believe that these children will return to the library after their exams are over. After all, they won't need to study anymore, so why would they need a library space?
Children going to the library, for whatever reason, means they still see the benefits of this institution. Librarians should find ways to spread and cultivate a reading culture and a love of books in the hearts of children, so that they fully understand the necessity of the library and return after exams.
A library is not simply a collection of books. Let's transform libraries into destinations that offer readers many other benefits besides books. To achieve this, libraries can partner with other legally permitted services. In recent years, a similar cultural institution, the museum, has strived to innovate and diversify its approach to attract visitors. This serves as inspiration for libraries to break free from dependence on government funding and find ways to retain their readership.
