According to a resolution recently issued by the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council, regulations designating areas where livestock farming and swiftlet farming are prohibited within the province have come into effect.
The resolution designates the Ly Son Special Economic Zone and Nghia Lo ward as two localities where swiftlet farming in any form is prohibited.
For the remaining 94 communes and wards, the Provincial People's Council stipulated that 64 communes and wards must implement the regulations on demarcating areas for swiftlet farming; 30 localities in the province did not demarcate prohibited farming areas, but farmers must ensure distance from residential areas, sound intensity, etc., in accordance with the law.
In central wards such as Cam Thanh, Truong Quang Trong, Kon Tum, Dak Cam, Dak Bla, etc., most main roads and many residential areas have been included in the list of areas where swiftlet farming is prohibited.
In many other communes and wards, the restricted areas are mainly concentrated around schools, offices, administrative units, markets, densely populated residential areas, and along major transportation routes.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ly Son Special Economic Zone, stated that currently there are no swiftlet farms on the entire island. The Provincial People's Council's resolution completely prohibiting swiftlet farming in Ly Son is an important legal basis for the island's residents to understand and refrain from building swiftlet farms in the coming years.
According to the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council, the zoning aims to strengthen the management of swiftlet farming activities, limit the construction of unauthorized swiftlet houses in residential areas, and minimize impacts on the environment, landscape, and people's lives.
