A boost is needed for tourism in southern Da Nang.

Located in the southernmost part of Da Nang city, the six communes of Nui Thanh, Tam Hai, Tam My, Tam Anh, Tam Xuan, and Duc Phu have great potential for tourism development; however, in reality, these areas have not yet attracted many tourists. The localities need a boost in promotion and resource mobilization to develop this "smoke-free industry."

Advantages and potential

The communes of Nui Thanh, Tam Hai, Tam My, Tam Anh, Tam Xuan, and Duc Phu have many famous historical sites and scenic spots such as the Nui Thanh Victory Monument, the Vo Chi Cong Memorial Area, Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua, Ho Giang Thom, Na Nghe Stream, Ran Beach - Nui Thanh, Ran Beach - Tam Tien…

The communes also have a 37km long coastline with 2 large estuaries, National Highway 1A, the North-South railway line, Nui Thanh station, and ports: Ky Ha, Chu Lai - Truong Hai.

Along with that, the transportation infrastructure has developed, especially major projects such as Vo Chi Cong road, Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway, Chu Lai airport; East-West connecting routes have been and are being invested in, upgraded, and newly built, creating momentum for tourism development.

Over the years, localities have received investment in infrastructure and facilities to support tourism development. For example, the Nui Thanh Victory Monument has received 60 billion VND for restoration and renovation. Revolutionary historical sites and scenic spots in the area are also being renovated during the 2021-2025 period.

Many accommodation and food service establishments in the five communes have been privately invested in and built, and there are currently 74 establishments serving tourists with more than 1,110 rooms. Besides the two large establishments, Tuiblue Nam Hoi An Resort and Bai Ran Tourist Service Area, the communes also have a system of well-invested and modern hotels and restaurants.

Localities are also developing tourism products such as the coastal fishing festival; restoring the Tich Tay mangrove forest, the Tam My fruit orchards, demarcating and protecting the Ho Giang Thom scenic site, preserving the national intangible cultural heritage "Ba Trao singing", and preserving the gray-footed langur population in Tam My commune...

According to Mr. Huynh Van Cuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Hai commune, tourism types in the locality are becoming increasingly diverse. Beach tourism includes Ran Beach - Tam Quang, Ran Beach, Tam Tien Fish Market, Ban Than - Tam Hai, Bac Beach - Tam Hai, Hon Mang - Hon Dua Tam Hai; ecotourism includes Ho Giang Thom, Ran Beach - Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua...; and cultural and historical tourism includes the Nui Thanh Victory Monument, the Vo Chi Cong Memorial Area...

From 2021 to the present, the number of tourists visiting the communes has increased rapidly. In 2021, there were 2,000 visitors (including 140 foreign tourists); in 2024, this number is expected to increase to 39,950 visitors (including 1,300 foreign tourists)...

We need a "boost" for development.

In reality, for many years, planning land allocation for tourism business activities in these communes has faced difficulties and remains unresolved. The management of the current land use, land planning, and the management of scenic spots and historical sites are still limited, leading to illegal encroachment, construction, and unauthorized planting of trees on historical and scenic land.

At scenic spots such as Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua, Ho Giang Thom, and Bien Ran, environmental sanitation is not yet guaranteed.

The process of establishing dossiers for tourism projects in the area faces many difficulties related to planning, leading to insufficient initial infrastructure to meet the requirements for establishing dossiers requesting recognition of tourist areas and destinations.

The tourism infrastructure is inadequate. Tourism products here are still monotonous; tourist destinations have not yet fully exploited the potential and strengths of the locality to retain tourists.

Local communities are still limited in tourism activities at tourist areas and destinations. Infrastructure for accommodation, entertainment, shopping, and unique tourism products and specialties associated with the region are still scarce...

Following the merger of Quang Nam and Da Nang city, the six aforementioned communes will have many new opportunities for tourism development. However, these localities need a boost from the government and relevant departments of Da Nang city to overcome difficulties and create a foundation for the development of the tourism economy .

First and foremost, it is necessary to create regional linkages, strengthen propaganda, promote investment and tourism; and encourage and support travel businesses to connect tours and routes between tourist areas and destinations in the region.

In addition, it is necessary to improve the quality of existing tourism products, develop new tourism products associated with building tourism brands; and connect tourism in Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An, Ly Son Island - Quang Ngai with 6 communes: Nui Thanh, Tam Hai, Tam My, Tam Anh, Tam Xuan, and Duc Phu - the southernmost region of Da Nang city.
