The meeting approved the report on the current state of digital economic development and key tasks and solutions; the proportion of the digital economy in the GRDP of 63 provinces and cities; and solutions to increase the rate of smartphone use among the population in localities to promote the digital economy. The National Strategy for the Development of the Digital Economy and Digital Society until 2025, with a vision to 2030, aims for the digital economy to account for at least 20% by 2025. To achieve this goal, it is estimated that the digital economy must grow 3-4 times faster than GDP growth, or approximately 20-25% per year. This is a difficult and challenging task, requiring breakthrough solutions.
The meeting discussed solutions regarding: the development of the digital economy in several key sectors of the Vietnamese economy (processing and manufacturing; tourism; agriculture; logistics; textiles and garments). Each key economic region should establish at least one regional large data center and one regional digital transformation center, concentrating digital businesses; developing and piloting digital solutions and products. Promoting the rate of smartphone use among the population in localities (especially in provinces such as Tuyen Quang, Dien Bien, Nam Dinh , etc.) by directing businesses to develop and implement programs to convert subscribers using older 2G/3G technologies to smartphones. Several opinions were raised regarding digital transformation solutions in agriculture, seaports, transportation businesses, textiles and garments, etc.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized: The digital economy is a tool to help stabilize and promote sustainable growth. The second thematic session, themed " Breakthrough Solutions for Developing the Digital Economy in Industries and Sectors," is expected to create a further impetus to promote the development of Vietnam's digital economy in general, and to promote the development of digital platforms and digital transformation of businesses, industries, and sectors in the last six months of 2023 in particular. In the coming time, the Ministry of Information and Communications will soon finalize the legal framework, together with the ministries in charge of each industry and sector, to determine the role and legal position of digital platforms, and to supervise and contribute to ensuring the sustainable development of Vietnam's digital economy.
At the meeting, the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Planning and Investment signed a cooperation agreement on supporting businesses in digital transformation and promoting the development of the digital economy.
