It is known that this road passes through the current and future administrative and political center of Hong Thu commune, according to Decision No. 665/QD-UBND dated April 4, 2026, of the People's Committee of Lai Chau province approving the general planning of Hong Thu commune, Lai Chau province until 2045. Construction began in 2008 and the road was put into use in 2012. The road is 23.7 km long, starting from Ta Ghenh village, connecting with provincial road 129, and extending to Lung Cu village. This road plays a particularly important role in connecting eight villages of Hong Thu commune: Song Con, Din Danh, Phin Ho, Nam Ma Thai, Nam Ma Dao, Can Ty 1, Can Ty 3, and Ta Ghenh. The project was funded by government bonds with a total expenditure of over 73 billion VND. Upon completion, the road will contribute to positive changes in the lives of the local people. Travel has become more convenient, and trade has gradually expanded. However, after more than a decade of operation, many parts of the route have deteriorated and urgently need comprehensive upgrading.

Currently, out of a total road length of 23.7km, only 9km have been paved with asphalt, leaving 14.7km unpaved. Over time, due to harsh weather conditions, complex hilly terrain, and increasing traffic volume, the road surface has suffered erosion, subsidence, and severe damage. During the dry season, dust affects the daily lives and health of residents. The rainy season is even more difficult with many sections becoming muddy and slippery; cracks appear, posing a significant traffic safety hazard. Numerous accidents have occurred, especially involving women, students, and the elderly. This not only affects transportation but also directly impacts the production activities of the local people.
Hong Thu is a locality with many distinctive agricultural products, but transportation and consumption are facing difficulties related to this road. During the harvest season, many households lose extra time and money transporting goods from the production area to their homes or to sell at central markets. Smaller vehicles frequently get stuck in the mud or break down when traveling on the deteriorated road sections.
Sharing with reporters, Comrade Cheo A Sun - Secretary of the Party Branch of Nam Ma Dao village, said: “For many years, people have faced great difficulties in traveling. Whenever it rains, the road becomes slippery, and many people fall while moving through. Meanwhile, people are very proactive in exploiting the advantages of the land, expanding cultivated areas, and intensifying crop production, so the demand for transporting agricultural products during the harvest seasons is very high. Motorbikes struggle to carry heavy loads, and small trucks also have difficulty navigating. We earnestly hope that the relevant authorities will pay attention to investing in upgrading the road as soon as possible.”

Leaders of Hong Thu commune, along with local residents, went to inspect the deteriorated condition of the road passing through Nam Ma Dao village (Hong Thu commune).
Local Party committees and authorities have repeatedly mobilized the people to participate in temporary repairs along the road. Damaged sections have been filled with soil, sand, gravel, and leveled to ensure traffic flow. However, this is only a temporary solution because after each heavy rain, many sections continue to be damaged.
Mr. Tran Van Hung, Chairman of the Hong Thu Commune People's Committee, said: The locality has repeatedly requested the higher authorities to allocate funds for repairing and upgrading the road. At the same time, the commune has also proposed including the project in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2031. However, the project has not yet been approved, while the need for investment is very urgent.
With the rainy season upon us, and given the current state of the Ta Ghenh - Nam Ma Dao - Nam Ma Thai - Lung Cu road, the local authorities and residents earnestly hope that the road will soon receive investment for upgrading and repair.
