The stadium in Van Ban commune needs to be renovated soon.

In 2024, with an investment of 5 billion VND, the project to renovate the former Van Ban District Stadium, now located in Van Ban commune, was expected to provide a modern and spacious sports space, meeting the needs of local people for health training and organizing cultural and sports events. However, shortly after its completion, the site has turned into a wasteland overgrown with weeds, and some parts have deteriorated.

The stadium pitch was buried under grass.

The Van Ban Stadium holds a significant location, having once served as the sports center of the former Khanh Yen town. The investment of 5 billion VND for upgrading and renovation is seen as a major effort by the local government to improve the cultural and spiritual life of the people. However, the current state of the stadium reveals a regrettable contrast.

The pitch, considered the "heart" of any stadium, is no longer a place where young players or local youth can indulge their passion for football. Instead, it is overgrown with thorny weeds.

La Anh Tuan, from Ban Mac village, Van Ban commune, shared: "Before, I used to come here to play football. But now the field is full of weeds and thorns, so we can't play football anymore. Now we have to play football around our houses."

Meanwhile, Mr. Ha Van Mai from Ma village, Van Ban commune, lamented: "The stadium used to be quite beautiful, but now it's covered in weeds. What a pity!"

Not only the pitch itself, but also the auxiliary facilities are in a state of "alarm." The spectator area, where fans watch matches, is deteriorating, with crumbling paving stones and overgrown weeds. This situation not only causes waste but also deprives the community of essential communal space.

Local residents are hoping the site will be cleared soon so that it can reopen.

A solution is needed soon.

The stadium upgrade project was previously invested in by the People's Committee of Van Ban District. According to regulations on investment and construction management, responsibility for the deterioration of public works and state infrastructure after investment rests with multiple levels of government. The investor is responsible for supervising the entire construction process, ensuring the quality of the project according to the design documents, and conducting thorough acceptance testing before handover.

According to the handover document for the project to Khanh Yen town, Van Ban district (formerly) on March 17, 2025, the construction unit is responsible for the warranty of the project in accordance with Article 29 of Decree 06/2021/ND-CP. Accordingly, the warranty period is 12 months from the date of handover. Therefore, from the handover date to the time the reporters conducted this report, only about 8 months have passed, meaning the Van Ban stadium still has more than 4 months of warranty remaining.

From the local government's perspective, after the project was completed, it was handed over to Khanh Yen town, now part of Van Ban commune, which is responsible for its management, operation, and regular maintenance. The fact that weeds are growing and the stone cladding in the grandstand area is partially peeling off in many places indicates a lack of funding and manpower for regular maintenance and upkeep.

Following feedback from residents and the deteriorating condition of the stadium, the Van Ban commune authorities have responded and developed a plan to address the issues.

Mr. Vu Xuan Thuy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Ban commune, affirmed: "We are currently inspecting and reviewing the deteriorated items to develop a plan for repair and maintenance, ensuring the project operates effectively."

The Van Ban commune stadium is a valuable public asset and plays an important role in the local cultural and sports life. Leaving the facility abandoned and deteriorating immediately after its upgrade is unacceptable.

Relevant agencies, units, and localities need to urgently allocate funds and personnel to mow the grass on the pitch, repair the stands, and bring the stadium back into operation as soon as possible.

Simultaneously, establish procedures and allocate funds for regular grass cutting and maintenance to prevent the recurrence of this wastefulness. Only when the project is used effectively and serves its intended purpose will the disbursed 5 billion VND truly be meaningful to the people.
