This October, a lot of information has been circulating about the "WhatsApp Gold" update - which is said to be a premium version of the WhatsApp application with many exclusive features such as new emojis and better video quality.
However, many Facebook users have warned about this supposed "WhatsApp Gold" update.
Posts describe "WhatsApp Gold" as a scam that installs malware on users' phones and steals their personal information.
Posts urge users not to interact with text messages depicting this supposedly premium version of WhatsApp.
Accordingly, these promotional messages falsely claim that users can unlock "exclusive features" such as video calls, new emojis or chat line colors by upgrading to WhatsApp Gold.

Several Facebook posts said "WhatsApp Gold" was a scam similar to "Martinelli" - a video that, if opened on WhatsApp, would hack a user's phone.
After verification, experts on Snopes website said on October 16 that the posts calling for caution were real.
WhatsApp also doesn't offer a premium version called "WhatsApp Gold," and messages promoting this update could be aimed at stealing personal information or infecting devices with malware.
Different versions of “WhatsApp Gold” have been scamming people for nearly a decade, first reported in 2016, according to The Independent . Since then, many cybersecurity experts have warned about the “WhatsApp Gold” scam.
Additionally, WhatsApp also confirmed that "WhatsApp Gold" is a scam and not the official version of the app. At the same time, it encourages people to only use the official WhatsApp app.
