This October, there's been a lot of talk about the "WhatsApp Gold" update – supposedly a premium version of the WhatsApp app with exclusive features like new emojis and better video quality.
However, many Facebook users have warned about this update, which is being called "WhatsApp Gold".
Posts describing "WhatsApp Gold" as a scam will install malware on users' phones and steal their personal information.
The posts urged users not to interact with text messages describing this supposedly premium version of WhatsApp.
Accordingly, these promotional messages falsely claim that users can unlock "exclusive features" such as video calls, new emojis, or chat line colors by upgrading to WhatsApp Gold.

Several Facebook posts claim that "WhatsApp Gold" is a scam similar to "Martinelli"—a video that, when opened on WhatsApp, would hack the user's phone.
Upon verification, experts at Snopes stated on October 16th that the posts urging caution were genuine.
WhatsApp also does not offer a premium version called "WhatsApp Gold," and promotional messages for this update may be intended to steal personal information or infect devices with malware.
Various versions of "WhatsApp Gold" have scammed numerous people for nearly a decade, first documented in 2016, according to The Independent . Since then, many cybersecurity experts have warned about the scam known as "WhatsApp Gold".
Furthermore, WhatsApp has confirmed that "WhatsApp Gold" is a scam and not the official version of the app. They also encourage users to only use the official WhatsApp application.
