The life savings that they thought they had hidden away so carefully suddenly disappeared, leaving the old couple in great shock.

The incident happened many years ago but has recently been shared repeatedly by the Chinese online community.

One day in April 2015, an elderly couple in Yingkou, Liaoning Province, China went for a walk in the park near their home after dinner as usual. However, when they returned that day, they found the whole house in disarray. When they ran into the bedroom, they discovered that the bed had been removed and all the money the couple had saved up, 1.6 million yuan (about 5.6 billion VND) that they had hidden underneath, had also disappeared.

Receiving the notice from the people, the police quickly arrived at the scene to check and learn about the incident. Witnessing the scene of all the assets saved up for a lifetime suddenly disappearing, the wife was so shocked that she almost fainted. Everyone had to help her up and calm her down.

The old lady was so shocked that she could not stand after the incident.

However, what surprised everyone was why a seemingly normal couple kept so much cash in their home. The police later investigated and confirmed that they actually owned 1.6 million yuan.

According to the verification, the husband, Mr. Liu, and his wife, Mr. Wang, were businessmen. In the late 1980s, they seized the opportunity and started a catering business. With their cooking skills and enthusiastic service, their small restaurant quickly became famous locally, and the business grew steadily.

When they were old and weak, the couple felt that the food service industry was too hard, so they changed careers and opened a small supermarket. Although the scale was small, thanks to its prime location and the surrounding population, Mr. Luu and his wife still had a good and stable source of income.

For many years, they have kept the habit of saving and saving every penny. Even when the business was going well, their life was still very simple. However, because of their old age, Mr. Liu and his wife did not know much about technology, so they did not feel secure depositing money in the bank. In addition, they were also afraid that if they were sick and needed money urgently, they would not have it with them. Finally, Mr. Liu and Mrs. Vuong decided to design a drawer right under the bed to hide the cash.

Police thoroughly inspected the scene and found signs that the door lock had been broken with professional techniques. In addition, although the house was messy, there were few signs of ransacking, indicating that the thief likely knew where the money was hidden.

According to a witness who lives downstairs from Mr. Liu, on the afternoon of the incident, he saw two strange men walking into the hallway and occasionally looking upstairs. This clue immediately attracted the attention of the police. They quickly extracted surveillance video from a nearby intersection and discovered a man acting suspiciously.

Police are closely examining surveillance cameras to look for suspects.

Through investigation, the police finally identified the main suspect in the case as Khang Nang Vu, 38 years old, who has a history of theft. This time, Khang Nang Vu also had an accomplice, his nephew named Khang Vinh Cat, who is only 22 years old this year.

Before the incident, Khang Nang Vu was being chased by creditors but was unable to pay. Accidentally learning that Mr. Luu and his wife were hiding a large amount of cash in their house, he began to have the intention of stealing.

After identifying the suspect, the police immediately launched a manhunt, but Kang Nengyu and Kang Yongji split up to escape. Kang Nengyu fled to Baotou City, Inner Mongolia; while Kang Yongji hid in a small village in Yingkou, Liaoning Province.

Authorities mobilized police forces from all over the country to assist in the search. Finally, after 7 days of the incident, they arrested both Khang Nang Vu and Khang Vinh Cat.

Kang Nang Vu was arrested for stealing 1.6 million yuan from Mr. and Mrs. Liu.

Mr. Liu and Mrs. Wang were returned most of the money, as Kang Nang Vu and Kang Vinh Cat had only taken out a small amount for spending. Through this incident, they also learned a valuable lesson about money management. With the persuasion of the police and family, the elderly couple finally agreed to deposit the money in the bank and no longer kept large amounts of cash in the house.

This incident caused a stir in the local community at the time and was a warning to everyone. Chinese police reminded people to raise awareness of safety and financial management, so as not to fall into the same situation as Mr. Liu and his wife. Because it is not always possible to recover the lost money.
