According to information from Hai Phong Eye Hospital, at noon on January 8th, patient LVT (33 years old, male) was admitted to the hospital with pain and reduced vision in his left eye following an injury.
The patient stated that about two hours before arriving at the hospital, a metal nail flew into his left eye, and he had removed the foreign object himself before going to the hospital.
Upon examination, the doctors determined that the patient was at risk of penetrating eye injury and scleral rupture, so they ordered emergency exploratory surgery.
The surgery was performed directly by resident physician Doan Minh Hoang at the High-Tech Services Department. During the surgery, the team accurately identified the location of the scleral tear and promptly performed the repair, contributing to the preservation of the eyeball structure and reducing the risk of serious complications.
According to the doctors, this was a difficult case because the wound was located close to the rectus abdominis muscle, a location easily overlooked if not thoroughly investigated and treated promptly. The patient's health is currently stable and they are continuing to be monitored and treated at the hospital.
Doctors advise workers to wear full protective eyewear when working in environments with potential accident risks. If an eye injury unfortunately occurs, it is necessary to quickly go to a specialized medical facility for timely emergency treatment to avoid long-term effects on vision.
