The film "Under the Bright Window" garnered audience attention thanks to its simple, realistic, and humane plot. Viewers felt as if they were seeing themselves or the lives of those around them through the characters in the film.
In particular, the "sleeping in the same bed but dreaming different dreams" relationship between the couple Duong (Tien Loc) and Dieu (Quynh Chau) has become a hot topic of discussion on social media. Viewers believe both are at fault in this marriage, and some even urge the film to quickly show their divorce.
In episode 9, Dieu wanted her husband to go to a party with some of the older residents from the old apartment complex, but Duong was busy texting Trang (Thanh Tam) and didn't pay attention to what his wife was saying.
When Dieu became suspicious and asked, "Your business partner is quite funny, isn't he? Lately, I've seen you texting and giggling to yourself all the time," Duong accused his wife of being overly suspicious and handed her his phone to check.
But in reality, he had deleted all the messages with Trang, just trying to appear decent to cover up the fact that he was trying to flirt with another girl.
In episode 6, Duong and Dieu argue about mortgaging the house so Dieu can save the company. After scolding his wife and threatening divorce, Duong rushes to Trang's house to affectionately take care of his business partner. In episode 7, Duong even buys turmeric powder and sends it directly home for his wife to receive; this is something Duong prepared for Trang to drink to treat her stomach pain.
When Dieu questioned why he was having groceries delivered to his colleague's home, whether he needed to hand them over personally, and whether the colleague was male or female, Duong angrily accused his wife of asking pointless questions and trying to pick a fight with him.
"I wasn't trying to cause trouble. It's just that every time you argue with your wife, you spend the night away from home. I have the right to make assumptions, don't I?" Diệu said.
Duong replied, "You can think whatever you want, but remember one thing: I haven't done anything wrong to you."
In the early episodes, Dieu was so preoccupied with developing her career and trying to save the company that she neglected her husband. Her independent thinking also led her to make decisions alone without consulting Duong, which increased conflict between them.
However, in later episodes, noticing her husband's strange behavior, Dieu wants to try artificial insemination to have a child and keep him by her side. But Duong, who had previously urged Dieu to have children, becomes indifferent and refuses, saying, "I think we're doing very well as a couple."
Even in episode 8, Duong refused intimacy with his wife. He acted distant and annoyed with Dieu, while wholeheartedly caring for Trang despite having only met her a couple of times.
The cracks in the marital relationship between Duong and Dieu are obvious to everyone; their marriage is on the brink of collapse, but the fault doesn't lie solely with one person. Viewers are also disgusted by Duong's "emotional infidelity," being cruel to his wife but gentle with another woman. However, this portrayal is considered realistic, reflecting a problem many families face, thus garnering audience empathy.
Viewers also hope that Dieu will quickly realize that Duong has changed so that she is not deceived by his lies, his pretense of righteousness, and even his attempts to falsely blame his wife.
On social media, many viewers left comments expressing their wish for Duong and Dieu to divorce quickly: "Can we fast forward to the scene where they get caught?", "I'm really looking forward to the scene where Dieu throws water at me", "Get a quick divorce and go back to the neighbor", "He's texting his mistress even though his wife is right next door", "Fast forward to the divorce scene already", "Duong is a thief who cries foul", "When will the episode where Duong gets caught come out?", "In general, you can't just blame Duong.
