Teachers' salaries vary depending on the educational level and professional title, based on different coefficients. Currently, the highest basic salary for teachers is 15.865 million VND/month; the lowest is 4.914 million VND/month.

Teachers' salaries are currently calculated based on a base salary of 2.34 million VND per month.

Specifically, teachers' salaries are calculated using the formula: Salary = Salary coefficient x Base salary.

According to Government Decree 73/2024/ND-CP, effective from July 1, 2024, the basic salary is 2.34 million VND/month. However, due to salary coefficients and teacher ranks at different educational levels, salaries vary depending on the specific case.

Therefore, if only the basic salary is considered, currently, at the preschool level, preschool teachers of rank III are subject to a salary coefficient ranging from 2.1 to 4.89; rank II teachers from 2.34 to 4.98; and rank I teachers from 4 to 6.38.

Therefore, a kindergarten teacher of rank III, level 1 with a salary coefficient of 2.1 will have the lowest basic salary at the kindergarten level, which is 4.914 million VND/month. This is also the lowest salary for a teacher in the public education system.

Preschool teacher salary scale

Kindergarten teachers of rank II, with salary coefficients ranging from 2.34 to 4.98, will have the highest basic salary of 11.653 million VND/month.

Kindergarten teachers of rank I, with salary coefficients ranging from 4 to 6.38, will have the highest basic salary of 14.929 million VND/month - this is the highest salary for kindergarten teachers.

Primary school teacher salary scale

At the primary school level, the salary coefficient has increased compared to the preschool level. Specifically, primary school teachers of grade III are subject to a salary coefficient ranging from 2.34 to 4.98; grade II teachers have a salary coefficient from 4 to 6.38; and grade I teachers have a salary coefficient from 4.4 to 6.78. Thus, a primary school teacher of grade III, level 1 with a salary coefficient of 2.34 will have the lowest basic salary at the primary school level, at 5.476 million VND/month.

Primary school teachers of rank II, with a salary coefficient ranging from 4 to 6.38, will have the highest basic salary of 14.929 million VND/month.

Primary school teachers of rank I will have the highest basic salary of 15.865 million VND/month - this is also the highest salary for primary school teachers.

Secondary school teacher salary scale

At the lower secondary level, teachers in grade III are subject to a salary coefficient ranging from 2.34 to 4.98; grade II teachers from 4 to 6.38; and grade I teachers from 4.4 to 6.78. Therefore, a grade III lower secondary teacher will have the lowest basic salary at the lower secondary level, at 5.476 million VND per month.

Secondary school teachers of rank II have the highest basic salary at 14.929 million VND/month.

The highest basic salary for a Grade I secondary school teacher is 15.865 million VND/month - this is also the highest salary for secondary school teachers.

High school teacher salary scale

At the high school level, Grade III teachers are subject to a salary coefficient ranging from 2.34 to 4.98; Grade II teachers from 4 to 6.38; and Grade I teachers from 4.4 to 6.78. Therefore, a Grade III high school teacher will have the lowest basic salary at the high school level, at 5.476 million VND per month.

High school teachers of rank II have the highest basic salary at 14.929 million VND/month.

High school teachers of rank I have the highest basic salary at 15.865 million VND/month - the highest salary for high school teachers.

Thus, currently, the basic salary for teachers in the entire public education system ranges from a high of 15.865 million VND/month to a low of 4.914 million VND/month.

On June 16th, the 15th National Assembly officially passed the Law on Teachers - the first specialized law that fully regulates the legal status, rights, obligations, and policies for the teaching staff. A notable new point is that teachers' salaries are ranked highest in the administrative and public service salary scale.

This is an important basis for the Government to make regulations regarding teachers' salaries, ensuring the principle of "highest ranking".

The Ministry of Education and Training stated that, in the draft Decree regulating salary policies, allowances, support and attraction regimes for teachers in the Teacher Law project dossier, the Ministry plans to advise the Government to reorganize the salary scale of some teacher positions (such as preschool teachers, primary and secondary school teachers, pre-university teachers, vocational education teachers of grade IV, etc.) to ensure uniformity in the salary scale applied to professional positions of teachers and civil servants in other sectors and fields; at the same time, ensuring the living standards of teachers, helping them to work with peace of mind and dedicate themselves to the cause of education.

In addition, according to the Law, teachers are also entitled to special allowances, responsibility allowances, preferential allowances, subsidies for disadvantaged areas, allowances for inclusive education, seniority allowances, and mobility allowances, contributing to an overall increase in income.
