Lindelof leaves MU after 8 years with the club. |
According to the Daily Mail , Victor Lindelof has met with Manchester United's management. During the meeting, both sides agreed not to renew his contract. The Swedish defender will leave Old Trafford as a free agent after the 2024/25 season.
Lindelof has become the third confirmed departure from Manchester United this summer, following veteran Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans. His destination is believed to be Serie A or La Liga. Several big clubs, including Juventus, have approached the Swedish national team captain, but he has yet to agree to a move.
Lindelof joined Manchester United in 2017 for €35 million but has never lived up to fans' expectations. This season, the 30-year-old center-back has been frequently absent due to injury and has only started 9 times in all competitions.
During his eight years at Manchester United, Lindelof made a total of 283 appearances. He won two trophies, the FA Cup and the League Cup, both under manager Erik ten Hag. Manchester United, meanwhile, have several options to replace Lindelof, including the young duo of Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven.
Besides Lindelof and Eriksen, MU is also planning to offload several other underperforming stars, including Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and most recently, Alejandro Garnacho. Even captain Bruno Fernandes is at risk of being sold to Al Hilal, with the Saudi Arabian club reportedly valuing the Portuguese midfielder at nearly £100 million.
