Lindelof leaves MU after 8 years of association. |
According to the Daily Mail , Victor Lindelof had a meeting with the Manchester United board. Here, both sides agreed not to renew the contract. The Swedish midfielder will leave Old Trafford as a free agent after the 2024/25 season.
Lindelof becomes the third player confirmed to leave United this summer, after veteran Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans. The player's destination is believed to be Serie A or La Liga. Many big teams, including Juventus, have approached the Swedish national team captain but he has yet to agree.
Lindelof joined MU in 2017 for 35 million euros but has never met the expectations of fans. This season, the 30-year-old center-back has been absent frequently due to injury and has only started 9 times in all competitions.
During his 8 years at MU, Lindelof played a total of 283 matches. He won 2 titles including the FA Cup and League Cup, both under coach Erik ten Hag. On MU's side, the Old Trafford club has many options to replace Lindelof, namely the young star duo Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven.
In addition to Lindelof and Eriksen, MU also plans to liquidate many unsuitable stars, including Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and most recently Alejandro Garnacho. Even captain Bruno Fernandes is at risk of being sold to Al Hilal, when the Saudi Arabian club is offering nearly 100 million pounds for the Portuguese midfielder.
