Caring for the lives of the Mong ethnic people.

Over the years, the policies of the Party and the State have created favorable conditions for the Mong ethnic minority people in Khun Ha commune (Tam Duong district), a mountainous area, to develop in all aspects, resulting in significant improvements to the rural landscape. This has contributed to raising the material and spiritual lives of the people, gradually developing the economy, and maintaining stable political security and social order.

Can Ho village in Khun Ha commune has 78 households, all of whom are Mong ethnic people. Previously, the villagers faced many difficulties. Thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, through the national target program for building new rural areas, the village has received investment in comprehensive infrastructure, including concrete-paved internal roads and a well-built school. In addition, a water tank and a village cultural center have been constructed to serve the daily lives and meetings of the villagers. Even more joyfully, in early 2015, Can Ho village received investment in the national power grid, bringing the light of knowledge and culture to the entire village. As a result, the lives of the villagers have gradually stabilized, and their material and spiritual well-being has improved.
Comrade Hang A Tua - Secretary of the Party Branch of Can Ho village shared: “Previously, the lives of the Mong ethnic people in the village were very difficult, only engaging in small-scale farming and livestock raising to meet family needs, and many households were still in a state of hunger, poverty, and backwardness. In recent years, thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, the face of the village has changed. Concrete roads have made travel and transportation of goods easier; electricity has brightened the lives of the people, and they have access to new knowledge through mass media and social networks. Along with that, with the orientation of economic development, the commune has promoted propaganda and mobilization of people to work hard in production and develop the economy, while actively converting inefficient agricultural land to passion fruit cultivation. Currently, the whole village has more than 6 hectares of passion fruit, bringing a stable income to the people. From there, the people have more confidence in the Party's guidelines and policies for economic development.” local economy, contributing to economic development and gradually achieving sustainable poverty reduction.

Comrade Tan Thi Que - Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairwoman of the District People's Council of Tam Duong District - visited the ginseng cultivation model of Lai Chau Ginseng Cooperative in Khun Ha.

Following the policy of converting inefficient single-crop corn and rice fields to tea cultivation, each household in Then Thau village received a subsidy of 15 million VND/hectare, covering 100% of the cost of seeds and fertilizers (in the first year). The villagers and people in the commune wholeheartedly supported this policy and boldly registered to plant tea. In 2019, the people of Then Thau village planted 33 hectares, and to date, the entire village has 115 hectares of tea, the largest tea plantation area in Khun Ha commune. Thanks to careful cultivation and pest control, the households are happy and excited because the tea planted in 2019 and 2020 has already yielded harvests. Thanks to the investment from the State, our village has developed a concentrated tea cultivation model, and now the tea has a stable market, providing high income and bringing a prosperous and happy life to the people.
Khun Ha commune has 14 villages and over 5,800 inhabitants, comprising two ethnic groups: Thai and Mong, with the Mong ethnic group accounting for over 97%. Over the years, the policies of the Party and State have created favorable conditions for the Mong ethnic minority in Khun Ha to develop in various fields, most notably in economic development. Taking advantage of the local potential and advantages such as: vast, fertile agricultural land and abundant local labor, Tam Duong district has guided Khun Ha commune to transform its crop structure to suit the local climate and soil conditions, focusing on planting and caring for several high-economic-value crops such as temperate fruit trees, passion fruit, tea, cardamom, and medicinal plants… To date, the commune has 56.3 hectares of temperate fruit trees; 420 hectares of cardamom; 3 hectares of medicinal plants; and 235 hectares of tea. Currently, there are 60 hectares of passion fruit, with plans to plant an additional 100 hectares in the near future. With the economy gradually developing, the rural landscape of Khun Ha commune is becoming increasingly vibrant. To date, the commune has concreted over 50km of roads and reinforced nearly 30km of irrigation canals. 100% of roads to villages are paved, making travel convenient year-round; 100% of villages have access to the national power grid; 100% of households have sanitary toilets and bathrooms; 14 out of 14 villages have cultural centers and built incinerators with garbage bins; 8 out of 14 villages have achieved the "bright, green, clean, and beautiful" status, contributing to a healthy environment. Notably, by the end of 2020, the commune had met all 19 criteria for new rural development. Policies investing in education and healthcare are prioritized, with 100% of school-aged children attending school and receiving support for meals and accommodation for boarding students. People have better access to healthcare services.
With decisive and focused leadership from the local Party committee and government, along with the efforts of the people, we believe that the Mong ethnic group in Khun Ha commune will develop many effective economic models, further strengthening their trust in the guidance of the Party to achieve a better life.
