| Mr. Lam Van Dang (center) introduces the goat farming model supported by the Loc Thien Border Guard Station. |
A few years ago, Lam Van Dang's family was in very difficult circumstances. His wife suffered from physical weakness and had undergone intestinal surgery; their two children were too young, so Mr. Dang alone shouldered the family's burden. They had no land for cultivation, so Mr. Dang worked as a rubber tapper to make ends meet. His family was classified as a poor household in the commune. Understanding their situation, the Loc Thien Border Guard Post provided him with funds to buy three female goats and one male goat to develop a goat farming model. Thanks to his diligent work, the family has developed a stable goat herd. Each year, the family earns over 10 million VND from this model, which has stabilized their finances , allowing Mr. Dang to save up and build a new house...
Mr. Ngo Van Dien, Head of Vuon Buoi Hamlet, said: Many poor and disadvantaged households in the hamlet and in Loc Tan commune have received dedicated assistance from the officers and soldiers of Loc Thien Border Guard Station. Besides donating breeding cows and goats, the unit also has many charitable programs such as the "Rice Jar of Compassion," providing 10kg of rice each to two particularly disadvantaged households every month. During traditional holidays and festivals, the unit mobilizes contributions in collaboration with various departments, organizations, local authorities, businesses, and philanthropists to give gifts to policy beneficiary families, poor and disadvantaged families, single-parent families, and to support poor but studious students.
According to Mr. Dien, in addition to donating gifts to support poor people in the area, the officers and soldiers of Loc Thien Border Guard Post also serve as a support for people during natural disasters and fires. Taking us to visit the pepper garden of Mr. Doan Quang Khoa's family in Vuon Buoi hamlet, Mr. Dien and Mr. Khoa said: The pepper garden has more than 1,000 plants. Not long ago, a storm knocked down the pepper plants. Thanks to the help of the officers and soldiers, more than 1,000 pepper plants have grown well and are promising a bountiful harvest. Mr. Khoa happily said: "Without the officers and soldiers of the Border Guard, my family would surely have fallen back into poverty. The people here are very grateful to the Loc Thien Border Guard Post!"
