With this red card, Gordon could potentially miss up to three matches due to the seriousness of the foul.

Speaking after the match, Van Dijk also revealed a brief conversation with Gordon: "I told him that if I hadn't been sent off in that incident, I wouldn't understand how football works these days. I just found it a little strange that the referee went to check the VAR screen."

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer also expressed his displeasure with Gordon's tackle on social media, calling it a stupid challenge that deserved a red card.

Ryan Gravenberch, Hugo Ekitike, and Rio Ngumoha were the three goalscorers, helping Liverpool secure a 3-2 victory over Newcastle. This win puts Liverpool third in the Premier League table with 6 points, level with Arsenal and Tottenham.

The goals on the day Liverpool won the championship: In the early hours of April 28th, Liverpool thrashed Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield, securing the Premier League title with four rounds to spare.
