Iraola has emerged as a candidate for the manager's job at MU. |
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United's leadership has a positive view of interim manager Michael Carrick, despite the team winning only one of their last four matches. Furthermore, MU's stance hasn't changed even after the club's 1-2 defeat to Leeds United in the 32nd round of the Premier League on April 15th.
The Italian journalist stated that the Old Trafford club sees Carrick as a source of stability and a positive influence on the dressing room. He emphasized: "Manchester United remains very pleased with Carrick, from his attitude and tactical approach to the relationships he has built with the players."
However, the pressure to perform is mounting as the race for Champions League qualification enters its decisive phase. Carrick faces crucial matches against Brentford, Chelsea, and Liverpool, all of which will be tests of his future at the club.
The primary condition set by INEOS is qualification for the Champions League next season. Failure to achieve this goal could lead to a change on the coaching staff at the end of the season.
In this context, Iraola has emerged as a potential candidate. The Spanish strategist has announced he will leave Bournemouth in the summer of 2026 and is ready for a bigger challenge. According to Romano, Iraola is not closed to the possibility of managing Manchester United if the opportunity arises: "He is certainly open to becoming the team's next manager."
There haven't been any official negotiations between the two sides yet, but MU still considers Iraola their top backup option should Carrick be unable to help the team achieve their goals.
