By nearly 11 PM on May 1st, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) was still coordinating with other functional units to cordon off the scene and investigate the cause of the large fire that engulfed a row of warehouses on D6 Street (Phuoc Long B Ward).

According to initial information, at approximately 8:40 PM on the same day, residents on D6 Street noticed a column of smoke rising from inside a row of warehouses on the street. Upon checking, they were horrified to discover a fierce fire. At that time, many people tried to put out the fire but were unsuccessful.
According to some witnesses, the fire originated in a cold storage warehouse containing seafood, then spread to a beer storage area of approximately 300 square meters and another business premises.
Upon receiving the report, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Team of Thu Duc City Police dispatched several fire trucks and numerous officers and soldiers to the scene to extinguish the fire.
At the scene, by late that night, the area surrounding the fire site was without electricity. Authorities were still pumping water to extinguish the remaining embers.
